Apparently you've never had shingles. :( I'm not discounting the discomfort of poison ivy but shingles is the single most painful ailment I've ever had, lasted about two weeks, took majorly heavy duty painkillers for it...and when the painkillers began wearing off, just prayed for the clock to tick on when I could take the next dose. *shudders*

My best friend got that last year - she is only 26. The nerve damage to her arm is permanent.

Poison ivy is nasty and it is everywhere on our land..

With poison ivy you don't really have an immunity that would build to it..what poison ivy does is breaks down your immunity to it with each exposure..so it's more like a shield that gets thinner with each exposure..some have more of a shield than others..but it will break down over time if you are around it enough.

It is a molecular bond that takes around 8 hours..so most people that are exposed to it thinking they may be immune could just be taking a shower before it bonds to them..
Simple Soap and water is all you really need to clean off the oil unless you are breaking open branches and getting direct exposure to the juicy oil..then the best thing is a product called Tecnu..

myself i never get itching from poison ivy..not yet anyways..i'm in it almost everyday..it's just everywhere you walk here..
the best thing to do is when you know you have been around it is..when you get home put everything you had on in the washing machine by itself..then jump in the shower..if you were badly exposed to broken vines or leaves that put a concentrated sap/oil on you then get some techu..put it on ever where and then stand there for like 10 minutes i think..then get in the shower and wash up..

as far a chiggers and ticks and mosquito.. a good diet with garlic in your foods helps a lot..
everyone around me seems to get 40 chigger bites and ticks and eaten up by mosquito's..

i put garlic powder or salt or clove in just about everything..not crazy amounts to where you smell like garlic..but just enough..also they have garlic tablets that will do the same thing..
.
.
so basically poison ivy you have about 8 hours to get cleaned up after exposure..

Chiggers ..well chiggers once you feel the itch they are already gone..it's their larva that gets inside your skin..it eats and leaves it's mess then goes off to be a chigger and whats left is what makes you itch..their waste lol
