Was wondering if there is a downtime scheduled later on today, Dec. 11th... The official LL blog's feed did say there will be one, so it is said in the google calender ( http://www.google.com/calendar/hosted/lindenlab.com/embed?src=grid-downtime%40lindenlab.com) but nothing in the blog... (yet) Wonder if any of you know any more than I do and another question that popped into my head was, hey hang on, December the 11th? The Lindens have a thing for funny coincidences since I know there is a boycott going on... Boycott Called for DEC 11 - It has been determined that the following actions will take place here, and hopefully across SL on Dec 11 to protest the verification process: 1) no one buys or sells L$ (rent is still due, if your renting a place and tier fees are due) 2) NO ONE VERIFIES THEMSELVES! 3) NO SIM OWNERS FLAG their land unless forced by LL. PASS THIS ON TO ALL GROUPS! the more involved, the harder the hit to LL. No wonder I can feel more anger and frustration towards the LL, not only from forum rats and blog readers but even from common sl sheeple... Impressive, really impressive LL. But back to the main question, please fill me in with info if you know more...

Yes, it's scheduled. Starting in the next couple of minutes. Posted here: http://blog.secondlife.com/ Are you implying that this downtime has anything to do with the boycott? The supposed boycott wouldn't even be a blip on the grid. In addition, if it was due to the boycott, why wouldn't they have the downtime in the busiest time of day, which is generally around 4pm or so.

Soooooooooooo tonight I will be rationalising my home office, cleaning out the fridge and hoovering. Wonder what time Brenda gets home? Probably just in time for no SL knowing her luck.

I am far from impying anything, but it does come in handy and I am suspicious by nature...

From: Bradley Bracken Are you implying that this downtime has anything to do with the boycott? I think the mystery was why it had for a time disappeared from the blog. It had gotten a "bump" at one point, maybe 18 hours ago or so, then vanished for a while. I was puzzled whether it was still "on" too, till this renewed blog post.

The fact that liberals are boycotting the verification process makes me wish that I could verify.

Thank GOD. It's been forever that we've had scheduled downtime. I personally rather enjoyed the Wednesday morning downtimes. I'd rather see scheduled downtimes than an attempt to keep the grid up week after week without error.

From: Sonia Nagy Hoovering? What the heck is hoovering? It is an arcane British practice where you get a small imp and force it to suck. Up your dust from the floor.

Vacuum cleaning.... Odd that Americans don't get this - the verb being named after the Hoover brand of vacuum cleaners; an American brand.

When I think of Hoover I think of either the head of the FBI or the President, not a vacuum cleaner. So which of them is the imp that you are using? The FBI director, J. Edgar Hoover, or President Herbert Hoover? And will you be using this imp in a Hoovertown?

I'd rather see scheduled downtimes than an attempt to keep the grid up week after week without error. They can hardly keep it up for a day without error But I'm glad to see the downtime myself, since it means we have a couple of days before the weekend and the mess ups from the down time. Besides, they're adding to the asset system! What's NOT good about that?! Well, besides the fact that for at least 24 hours afterwards, we're going to be dealing with 'glitches' from the new stuff? The hamsters have to be trained to eat while still running, remember? As for the boycott? I must be seriously out of the loop, because I don't recall hearing anything about it. Not.. that it would help anything. LL didn't create the verification system for us apparently, but for themselves. Doesn't work, if we use the tools and they still get sued, now does it?

From: Raudf Fox ...Doesn't work, if we use the tools and they still get sued, now does it? They will get sued anyway if they continue that path of age verification since it is not allowed for most Europeans to give away data aristotle wants to collect. Bad move not listening to us, even though I am pretty irritated to see how "nationally thinking" LL still are, since the residents are so not Americans only... open your eyes LL, sl is an international game, and you got offices within the EU, wake up!

Gotta say I don't see the problem myself. I give more info' than they are asking for each week when i fly somewhere within Europe and the USA. Not only that, I can search on the internet and find out more about myself than even I knew

But to be fair, the whole age-verification thing was initiated in response to an EU concern. Not that it wouldn't have happened eventually anyway, from some other bit of geography. (Now, the Thais are the ones who have grounds to complain: there's no grid-wide ban on saying bad things about the Thai royal family, which is a serious crime. In Thailand.)
