From: Kalor Rayner 71K? That is a huge inventory. Sure you don't lag too much? Actually, inventory will not cause lag except for a couple of the system folders, and that causes very specific types of lag. The calling cards will cause issues opening group channels, slow updates to the mini map, and in cases where you have a couple of thousand calling cards, issues with teleporting/sim crossings and logging in. Landmarks cause issues with map loading which in turn can cause some teleports to fail if you are already slow in teleporting. Too many gestures active in the root of the gestures folder will cause issues with logging in, and slow down the loading of your inventory. So far I have not found any issues with the Objects or photos folder. Textures will slow down the loading of the texture picker when you are in edit mode. The number 1 item that will cause teleport failure is mono scripts, and the number two item is sculpties. Both of them take a very long time for their state to be saved before you can teleport, and can take long enough that the teleport will fail.

From: Naz Fride I do what Daniel and LittleMe suggest...make new folders for Clothing (for instance) with subfolders for Dresses, Shoes, Boots, etc. My trick is to number your new folders (that is name them 1 Clothing, 2 Furniture, etc.) so they will be at the very top of your inventory if you check Sort Folders Always by Name (and uncheck System Folders To Top.) You can do this with subfolders, too, of course. Rather than numbers, I use "! " with the quotes. Spaces and the exclamation point are the 2 highest in sort order -- I use the number of spaces after the exclamation point to control my ordering, but this will always keep them at the top of inventory, even if a creator's folder has other special characters in it. I use the various special characters in my sub-folder names also to control the sort order - I'm picky about how I want things ordered. Like Bec, I pretty much don't use any of the system folders, so if something is still in there, it needs to be dealt with.

From: Kokoro Fasching My inventory is just a little over 71k - but it is completely organized. That way I can find all my toys quickly Haha - I am still winning. And to whomever asked about lag - I almost never have lag issues.

I don't remember the source, but I have heard the same about the system folders, so I just pretty much do not use them. Like I mentioned, my inventory is larger than Kokoro's and I almost never experience lag - not since I moved things out of the system folders and I even keep the number of items in my own root folders small.

The source has been various conversations in the forums (I remember Desmond had the log in issue with too many friends/calling cards) and experience testing between me and my combat alt who has only 500 items in inventory. Like Lil said, her inventory is larger than mine and no lag that can be attributed to the inventory.

I use the delete key a lot. Speaking of which.. I need to clean up the inventory again. Might help me in building dresses if I knew where everything was. Of course, once I'm done cleaning, I won't be able to find a thing.

Landmarks get loaded by the map whether they're in the Landmarks folder or not. Limiting the total number of Landmarks, whether they're in the Landmarks folder or not, is the important thing. From: someone Too many gestures active in the root of the gestures folder will cause issues with logging in, and slow down the loading of your inventory.
Textures will slow down the loading of the texture picker when you are in edit mode. Does it really matter if they're in the Gestures or Textures folder or not? They seem to still show up regardless. Are you sure you're not simply seeing the effect of limiting the total number of these assets? Mono scripts I can see, but why would sculpties take longer to save? They have no more state, as far as the server is concerned, than any other prim. The sculpt texture is just a UUID to the sim... it doesn't use it for anything.

I have around 30,000 in inventory also. I have right now a three pronged plan that I have just started.
1. I am going through my clothes and sorting them into folders (shirts, skirts, dress outfits etc.) With each clothes item I keep I take a picture so that I know what the item is without having to try it on. If I do not like the clothes item enough to sort it and take a picture I delete it.
2. I have a texture organizer and am sorting my textures into it. As a builder though I find it a little annoying to know I have a specific texture that I want but do not have access to it until I retrieve it.
3. I just bought Skidz Partz Inventory Server which stores copyable items offline. So I am going through my objects folder and sorting items I decide to keep into copyable and non copyable things. Everything that can be copied and that I want to keep I store offline in Skidz inventory server. On the web based server I further sort the items into separate organized folders. Any time I need an item that is stored on the server I just send it to myself. The only down side is that you have to have a place to put the server inworld, ie you have to own land. That is not a problem for me but might be for some folks.
I have tried several systems that sort let you store your items in prims but I find it is a real pain to try and find that one specific thing you know you have but are not sure where you stored it.
I am hopeful that I will be able to get my inv down to 10,000, that's my goal because it is easy for my computer to download about that number of items quickly if I have to clear cache and re-download.
Some people I know love using notecards to store many of their items, not a method I have really tried.
I have stopped doing hunts until I get things sorted out, hunts were giving me to many things that went into a random to sort folder, lol.
Hopefully I will just use the delete key a lot when going through this process!

From: Kylie Jaxxon Just curious, how much is in your inventory? Hmmm not in world now but thinking less then 10,000 cause well I like to keep it lean. I also have many many items in storage, stuff I dont really use like at Christmas and such. I love to organize and sort my inventory I know I am weird lol. Usually do my sorting and stuff on Sundays while watching chat and stuff Another thing I have done is Landmarks are on notecards with appropriate titles Like Exploring, Clothing, Hair, Dance Places, etc. I have a freebie notecard to hand out to new ones also. Lil's tree of how she does her inventory is pretty much like mine but then I go a bit further like for shirts Shirts Long Sleeve Blue Red White Short Sleeve Blue Red White So on and so forth. Love reading this thread

Sort everything, right when you get it. Don't leave anything sitting in your Objects folder unless it's sorted into a subfolder.
Delete duplicate landmarks regularly (delete them all if you're like me - I only keep lms for places I visit on a regualr basis)
If something comes boxed, and you unpack it, don't bother to keep the box AND the unpackaged items. Just one or the other. You can always package them back up again if you need to.
I never delete anything that's transferrable, because a day may come when I may want to pass it on even if I don't use it myself. But I'm pretty ruthless with deleting no-trans things.

I recently started a project to organize my own inventory ... download pictures of all my outfits.
I can then organize the pics however (like making HTML contact sheets) and have the organization on my computer. There are still things like scripts, objects, and so on, but it reduces the problem.
