To Greener Pastures

As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm not going to be making the transition to the joke forums LL has created. I know that I'm pretty unpopular with most here, and certainly won't be having anyone make a thread about why i'm needed So I"m making my own, as a chance for any and all to throw one last barb as I'm on the way out. I think it's only fair. I'll be checking in up until Midnight (PST) to maybe toss some back, and then that will be it.

I have considered it a rare privilege to debate with many of you here, even if we grossly disagree on many things, at least your responses weren't the usual "QQ cry moar/Lrn2Internet" type you get on most forums. (well, some of the time anyway )

Darien keep an eye on them anyway, I think LL have something up their sleeve on making them more than a forum, which is why they don't look like a forum. Right now I'm no fan but I've seen a similar sort of transition on a community I use at work and it hasn't worked out so bad and there were a lot of complaints about moving from a PHP forum.

I'd ask "Can I have your stuff", but I've already got it!

I'm still hopeful LL will forget about these forums and forget to pull the plug.

He's just getting a headstart on post-counts. By the time the old-timers switch over he will have over 1,000 post.

I for one will certainly miss your input, particularly in Scripting Tips. Thank you for all the help and encouragement you've given me there. I hope you'll feel able to return in the not too distant future. And my best wishes for whatever path you decide to take. Good luck

I don't think we ever had any disagreements, Darien. And I agree about the look/style of the new "forums." If this forum truly disappears, I doubt I'll be posting on the new ones either.

/me has heard Lindens and residents alike say that most of the objection to the new stuff is just people not liking change. I do not fear change. I just don't like buggy software that seems like a step backwards from what we have now.

I'll probably end up on the new stuff once they pull the plug here but I think I'm going to be a bitch about it. I see no reason to not bring bugs and missing features to LLs attention every chance I get.

LL has a history of running away once they declare something as "done." I think they should get called on it this time, frequently, if they pull that again. They seem to say they're serious about making a real platform out of SL and I'm tired of hearing it - they need to actually start BEING serious.

Best of luck where ever you land, Darien. I may seriously disagree with some of the stands you've taken lately but I think you're being honest about it, which counts for more than my agreeing with you.

I'm also running out of gas on SL. One of my good friends has almost completely packed up, gone to Facebook (shudder) and is dragging like 20 avatars with her.

Well, I think the forum rules say that you're only allowed to start one "Please don't go" thread a week otherwise . . .

I'm sorry to hear that you are going. You are forthright and insightful, and those are always good things.

I'm a little disappointed, I was hoping there was a little more fight left. Surely there is someone who wants to get a last shot in? Only chance...

I am sticking around until they pull the plug. The blogs are a joke. I tried. I went over and posted on a couple of random spots but the thing is so counter to community building it boggles my mind to think anyone with a position of authority could see it as an improvement. It will establish its own clique and then anyone not in on the start will be left in the cold.

I am seeing a pattern here. Something I have seen in many platforms, games and BBS's in the past. I wont say the sky is falling because it is not. Yet. But the writing is on the wall. It is breaking my heart to watch the company racing so blindly down the hall that so many others have gone down before. You can say it is not the same, this is different. Yeah, and it was different last time too.

But like I said, I will be here until they until they plug. Then I will be somewhere else.

I know some think i'll be back, but you can ask the XStreet people if I came back when I left there, and when I said I would close my store, I did, that very day. I don't say things like this lightly.

A lot of times I may simply give the latest reason why I do things, but it's rarely the only one. It's just the last straw on the pile. I'll still be poking my head in to SL itself, but the forum days are over. Give em hell Brenda

You shouldn't do things that make you unhappy. If the forums, new or old, make you grumpy, at least a break would be in order. Don't wait for the last straw - just walk away for a bit then come back later, if you want.

LL has still not beaten all the hope out of me. The new forums crap sucks, sucks hard, right now but they actually seem interested in making it work. Going there and torturing them will give me something to do...

/me very rarely declares last straw. Just a "this sucks lately. laters! maybe I'll come back some day" gets the point across enough for me. To each their own, though.

Darien, if it was not for you my SL experience would not have been near as fulfilling. Thanks for all you did behind the scenes to make my dream of owning my own sim a reality. All the best, always.
