First one I checked on is an escort club, went to the Mainland area and its in the middle of a sim no where around water. Not a good mainland spot. Now it will be located on a beach, surrounded by protected water. I swear it said Like for Like, what a let down from LL. Once again.

So you're complaining because you got a better spot, instead of a crappy one like you used to have? Geez, some people really can't be pleased. LOL

No, Shayla is not the one that got some prime waterfront property in exchange for landlocked yuck mainland space - that is why Shayla is upset.

One of the things I'd seen many other private estates do, was simply come out with new, shiny land ~ only to see their older regions implode as the same residents traded up.
Some measurable results are going to come out of this, because there will be a lot of residents who will move over just for the barn~raising experience, land speculation or lots of other intangible reasons not necessarily linked to the theme itself. It's the *interesting* thing for now. Which is quite cool, I'm all for interesting things... but what of the old mainland? My guess is that the plan is to 'mainstream' old mainland enough that it will be considered comfy for 'real life normal people' who should be moving in more, due to the more PGness of it all (in theory perhaps). And there is possibly another opportunity. If say, mainland truly *does* bottom out costwise... say it flatlines at $L 1 per meter or something with huge swaths for sale or abandoned, it could open the door to multiregion development on the scale that only private islands provide now. Thus ushering in the sort of managed mainland experience that could really turn it around. Imagine a set of countries like say, Europe dotted with duchys big and small inbetween. _____________________

Like for Like!!!

No, Shayla is not the one that got some prime waterfront property in exchange for landlocked yuck mainland space - that is why Shayla is upset. And rightly so upset! I think the point is Jack Linden and other Lindens said this was a "like for like" swap. They changed the water to be available after the forums land owners cried out "what about those with water now" and "like for like" couldn't be achieved without it. I have >1/4 sim protected on 2 sides by sailable Linden water with a corner to a third sailable sim.1 other person in the other 3/4s. No lag. No ad bots. Yes it rocked. RL money was paid. And it wasnt cheap. Now the Lindens want to force me to lesser land?? "Like for Like" is all we ask for. Oh and a little thing called honor in keeping your word Jack. |

Partner et al...
I'm really not thinking of doing such a thing myself, though I still have some sekr1t planz of a region sized, megaprim Steampunk Arcology that would be best suited for mainland. The problem of such a thing is that it might seem too ostentatious and overshadow its neighbours, not an impression I'd like to make. sounds expensive, tierwise. why, when you can just get an island, or a group of them, all waterfront (in essence) - as you have done? Well, there's this phenomenal financial advantage to mainland ~ 100 USD less tier per region, with a 10% boost on top of *that* for extra grouped land. The cost being all the estate controls and the potential of having hostiles control some portion of your regions, landwise. * * * * * I would add one tiny proviso to this ~ WERE I to ever do such a thing, I *might* be smart enough not to have 'Desmond Shang' start buying up parcels during a busy weekend while everyone was watching. Imagine holding that last 512 meter parcel in the middle of an area suddenly surrounded by the Commonwealth of Caledon group... hmm... think I'd get a reasonable price for it? _____________________

The funniest part is.. Loads of clubs will be walled all around. It takes a certain clientele and good organization to have an "open club", where random people can jetski 10 feet from the place where your visitors are doing more on the beach than sunbathing.
A smart club owner will actually want a very uninterresting sim, where there's less chance to have other clubs next door to reduce lag. |

It became evident some weeks ago that "like for like" simply meant it would be the same size.

Again playing devil's advocate/offering another perspective...but...
to be fair, it is a gargantuan task, trying to please every_single_person who's requesting the exact_same_thing they had before. I'm sure there are only so many waterfront parcels, so many roadside parcels, and etc., etc. Then trying to figure out whose first choice trumps whose first choice, and whose second choice trumps whose second choice, and whose third choice trumps whose.... _____________________

Staying up waaaaaaaaaaaay past my East Coast bedtime has just paid off... I did not expect to get my land for weeks, but I just got my parcels and the Linden team was awesome
![]() To give ya some idea, my support ticket was stamped 10:03 AM PST/SL and I got my land at 11:07 PM PST/SL time. I am told that there are currently 600 tickets after mine... But it seems they are gonna be working 'round the clock! Go Lindens Go! _____________________

I think LL wants out of supporting individual parcels for residents... They can't even bring themselves to heal the extortion parcels left behind from the adfarm wars--a problem that would never have developed under proper estate management, and would have been solved overnight by just contracting out the whole mess to--well, to practically anybody. If they didn't do it in all this time, I don't know what new factors would drive them to do it now. (An IPO or sale? That's another thing that I judge less imminent than do many; it just ain't 2007 anymore.) On the other hand, if the idea is just a discounted tier schedule (or some other special treatment) above the level of a score or so Mainland sims, yeah, I could certainly see that happening, especially if presented with the right offer, individually. |
