From: Joshooah Lovenkraft /me hates organized people Can I ask how long you've been around in SL? I'm at about 28K after about 1.5 years but it's highly unorganized filled with duplicates of things, unfinished builds, outfits I've never worn etc. It stresses me out sometimes lol. I'm sure if I got my act together I could cull it quite significantly but unfortunately my inventory could probably be visually represented like this: Hmm, Koko has a rez date of 05, december I think. But when you are a packPixie like I am, it doesn't take long.

From: Joshooah Lovenkraft For the > 45K folks, care to throw out an approximate number ... I'm curious to see who has the most ginormous inventory. I have not paid attention specifically in a little bit, but I **think** it is in the 80-85k range right now. And my TPs go quickly and things almost always rez very quickly wherever I go. The only time I have any issues with crashing is when I do a lot of camming around -- and that happens to my other account that has less than 1000 items. The only difference I notice is how long it takes to open the inventory when I click on the Texture box to change the texture of a prim -- hence I usually avoid doing it that way. Oh - Lil's rez date is July of 2007.

From: Nimue Jewell You are right, storage prims work basically that way. However, the prims themselves still have to be cataloged in my main inventory, and have to be rezzed then opened to be looked through. My scenario was a "dream system" so it adds being able to browse through them in folders without rezzing anything, all of that integrated into the viewer. I make a note card with a list of everything in the storage prim, and give it the same name so it displays together in my "Storage Prim" folder.

I'm quite proud of the fact that my inventory is under 3700 items, despite being in SL for two and a half years. I clear out unwanted stuff regularly. I also put a lot of stuff into boxes.
I have made a lot of my own clothes and I built most of my home and a collection of other things.

Even with all the textures from creations, packages for them, folders, etc. I'm only around 7500 in inventory. Not sure if this is necessarily safe but I also pack up little used things (like old textures for outfits) and put them in boxes then take them back into inventory.
Of course, all this still doesn't answer WHY I've lost my damn chim 4 times (and 3 times restored by LL support). Twice while worn and twice while sitting in inventory.
I had an OCD idea too to see if you lose anything -- consecutively numbered folders or boxes with specific items in them. (OCD kicks in as I run off to try it.)

I have about 7.500 items. I was hovering close to 9,000, but did a big purge of clothes I wouldn't wear, bling items that I couldn't easily turn off, movd most of my photos to my HD, and deleted all my landmarks.

My inventory is usually hovering in the 3800 - 4k range, but have been building, taking a lot more classes lately and picking up info from the Home & Garden Expo so it's ballooned up to around 5200.
For me personally, I hate my inventory this large, so looking for the next bit of free time to start weeding and archiving.

oh! thanks for that advise From: Kokoro Fasching The main thing I have found that if you keep the default primary folders mostly empty, you will not have any extra problems with 'lag' or teleports. The default folders are what the client and server checks as you change sims.

storage prims really arent an option for me. even a single texture subfolder may be holding 200+ textures. due to the prim inv limits, do you realise how long it would take to move 30,000 items into prims? and how would i possibly keep those logical and organised? would i have boxes such as 'walls-wood1', 'walls-wood5', etc? 'tartan-greens3', 'tartan-greens4', etc just wont work for me. texture organisers work better for me, but even then i am being hampered by the prim inv limit. i just wish there was a better inv interface and system.

Think of this, too. Even though you might have 5,000 items listed in inventory, many of those items are made up of even more prims, textures, scripts, etc. Granted, as pointed out earlier, an unmodified item you purchased from someone else probably is just a single link to the original linked set, but that linked set is made up of a bunch of individual assets. Wait, I think I'm confusing myself. Anyway, get the point? Didn't vote yet, but even though this is my business alt, and I carry a fairly good inventory of products, my full inventory still shows under 5k, even though I have a full folder structure duplicating my current inventory of products still left over from full-perming a lot of stuff to give to an associate who ran my business for me while I was away for a few months. OTOH, with two pairs of prim shoes and maybe four total clothing outfits.... yeah.

In addition, since boxes can't contain subfolders, I don't find it very useful for things like outfits, or products I have sorted into sub categories. In a box they are all jumbled together, making it harder to find the pieces I want to take out, or create a separate box for each outfit/product color. Also, though I do occasionally use some storage prims, I've read about items being lost which are stored this way. The asset server is much more reliable now than it was at the time that sort of things was reported, so it is likely perfectly safe. I am being too cautious there, I admit. I agree, an improvement to the Inventory system (such as is suggested here) would be very welcome to me, too. But in the meantime, I just do the storage prim thing... Argent, so far (knock on wood) I haven't lost any storage prims, and don't find them to be any more glitchy than anything else. In other words, I don't think there's anything about them that makes them inherently glitchy, so far as I know. But as Nimue says, the increased reliability of the asset server may account for my relatively good results. (I would really prefer to get my Inventory back under 10,000 items, and do prune regularly. But it does keep creeping up...)
