Thank you all for your helpful feedback! Perhaps my character speaks this way because I actually own a cat, and he is not very bright. My character is the childlike aspect of myself, and basically I just play like a child when I am in character. Maybe this is what bugs my friend, the fact that my character is not sexual or a 6 ft tall amazon with huge tits heh. Ha but I bet if my cat WAS sexual, that would disturb him more. My friend has issues, I think...thanks to you all for the reality/virtual reality check.

From: Nika Talaj Really, I'm hoping someone responds to this post with a PM giving me the best place to buy a "disturbing biped sex goddess furry"! Sorry, can't help you - wouldn't know where to _buy_ one. I'm already a disturbing biped sex goddess furry in RL, I come here to RP being human.

My Two Very Old Cents

Dearly Darlings,
I always thought that many Lucas characters needed English as a second language and elocution classes. Any living SL creature over the age of three that does not use proper grammar for it's age level (species traits included) needs to be out of the virtual gene pool.
Young Master Adz Childs has been to my home in Green and is a lovely, well behaved boy. I deplore the youngsters who whine, baby talk and grab my leg. They are off the property ASAP.
I cannot imagine a cat in any universe speaking baby talk. As for the young woman who believes that her cat is not the brightest on the planet....do you or do you not cater to it's every living need? The cat's credo is after all: WORLD DOMINATION...one lap at a time.
You all have a lovely Saturday!
Ever Yours,
Mrs. Showdog Tiger

My RL cat isn't bright, he's a chicken addict with a bad attitude. "Terrorising" is not the same as "being catered to" heh.

If I was talking like that for a character and someone i knew was upset that I was talking like that, I'd tell them to not listen to what I say. And if they yelled at me, I'd tell them to go away, but in more vulgar and harsher words. I dont let people yell at me for stupid reasons.
What you should do is tell him that if he doesnt like you talking like that, he should just ignor it. If he yells at you again, I'd start to just constantly talk that kitty talk over and over just to upset him even more.

From: Muse Oconnell Hi, New person here...I have this friend I brought from a chat system to SL, and he loves it, but we got into a very strange argument in which I felt I wasn't explaining things correctly to him. So I thought I would ask you all. I have an alt who is a tiny cat. When I am "in character" and visiting all the cool Tiny places and so on, my character talks like a cross between what I think a cat would say ("Got any chicken??" and a 3 year old ("You is a nice human!" . My friend met my alt and went ballistic, saying that I am, after all, a human adult female and the "baby talk" was creepy. I tried to explain what "roleplaying" is, and the difference between that and "avatar-based chat" (which is what he does, mostly in strip clubs *grins*), but he didn't think there was any difference and kept shouting at me. Mind you, he also defaults to "it's not real" when HIS avatar makes statements like "nice ass" lol. How can I explain what the differences are in SL regarding roleplaying, avatar-based chat, and so on? Yes I did talk to him about character sheets in RP sims like World of Hogwarts (of which I am also a member), but it didn't seem to make any sense to him. By the way, LittleKitty has dropped him from the friends list, as he is so uncomfortable talking with it. Heyas Muse. Well, Perhaps you could take the ball and run with it on this one. Just smile, keep up the "Kitty talk" and walk slowly inworld towards him with a large fillet knife. I have found that like in the real world..This is a good way to test the trust boundries of any social interaction. And if he fails..Well.. If you love something set it free. And then chase it down and maul it untill it's heart gives out. Merrrow!

From: Raymond Figtree Maybe he is a dog person.
But seriously, it's probably the baby talk that is turning him off. I don't find baby talk sexy either. I know you are not trying to be sexy when role playing in that avatar, but it seems your friend is primarily there for the SEXXEZ. It probably is the baby talk. It's demeaning to cats: They are much brighter than that would make them out to be. Unless your tiny cat is in fact a kitten? But if it's an adult cat, it should be at least as well-spoken as Garfield. Sheesh. Adult cats I have encountered would definitely NOT be amused by being portrayed as using baby talk. If you do go adult with your cat and he's still creeped out, then maybe it would be time to tell him, "Thanks for all the fish," and move on, like in the book.

Things might have been different if you came to my house for a visit, instead of me to yours. /me jumps on the furniture. "Watch this!" "Are you watching?" "Watch!!!" /me latches himself onto your leg. "Don't go!"

Heheheh. http://icanhascheezburger.com/OK The sound of my hysterical laughter has just put my BF in a right huff (he was trying to watch Battlescar Galatica) so warning to people don't look at this site!!! As for RP most of it goes way over my head. If someone is RP around me then I either leave them to it or interact as best I can but Baby Talk even if it is comming from a cat AV just isn't right for a lot of people.

A lot of people get pissed off when someone they already know and feel close to goes into character unannounced, like when switching AV's. I'd wager to say that if you weren't in a RP sim, and didn't ask him if he was ok with different RP personna's ahead of time, you might have inadvertantly invalidated yourself in his eyes. If he feels that RP personnas are contrived, cheap, and fake, then by doing that with the cat you helped him to cast doubt on the honesty and validity of your other AV as well. In essence... he knows the cat thing is fake, and he knows your other AV too. In his mind, what's to say everything he knows of, and has experienced with your non-cat AV isn't madeup and forced too. Having doubt cast on a history of interaction feels very much like finding out your best friend has been lying to you for years. Can also feel like finding out you've been toyed with in someones sick little play. All types of people are in SL. Some more grounded than you, others much less grounded, and combinations of the two depending on the situation. The respectful thing to do is find out how switching things up like that will sit with someone before you do it, cuz what you regard as just 1 personna is quite possibly the bulk of someone else's perceived reality about you. The child talk may also have played into that as well.

RP is very hard for some people to wrap their heads around.
For others...there's a limit. Myself, I don't RP.....but if I were to do any at all, I would stick to adult characters...be they human or not...I would not, could not....ever RP any kind of childish or nonsense talk. It just isn't appealing to me and I cannot communicate in that way.....knowing I am speaking to other intelligent adults. I don't mind what others do......but I understand that there are all sorts in SL and not everyone relates to character representation the same way. Personally I can't handle the baby talk stuff either...and yeah, it creeps me out. Especially when I'm nowhere near any kind of designated RP area and someone is 'in character'.
If your friend doesn't relate, he doesn't relate....and you don't have to relate to each other on every level about everything. Just enjoy the friendship for what it does offer you.....and enjoy the RP with the folks that are like minded. He'll find his groove. I think the difference with the way he is interacting....is he is still behaving like an adult male by saying things like "nice ass"....he's not necessarily deviating from his own personality to do that...but rather just interacting in-world as himself. (I'm guessing anyway)
With me.....if you se me in world.....you see the puppet...but you are always speaking to the puppeteer. The puppet has no soul...it's just instead of having a hand up it's butt....it's got a mouse & keyboard hard wired into it. LOL

From: Nika Talaj In some Linden office hours we see the two worlds co-exist to actually accomplish things. I hope that continues . That is what I *love* about Torley's office hours. Well, not *much* gets accomplished (I find it more of a very social info. dump), but you see all sorts of worlds come together there, and somehow co-exist. Mari
