Has any noticed that changes made to the Joystick Configuration window do NOT persist across logins? I find this rather annoying since I need to set fairly large dead zones in some settings to keep better control.

Nope. At least, the Release Candidate seems to remember my settings.

I found swapping between viewers causes the problem of reseting everything to default, so I don't use the RC anymore, till my SN arrives next week anyway, hopefully they will have fixed it by then.

SpaceNav Mac buttons

Patrice, have you got the button issue sorted yet? I'm curious because I am a Mac user and I think I want one of these... but probably not unless it works in SL. I've read here at the forums that it's good for Photoshop and 3D apps use, if I recall correctly, so I might get it anyway....

Hi Welleran.. seems like the buttons on the basic model PE have only limited functions on both Mac and Windows. Everything else works well, the flycam is very handy for building terraforming. So far it also works with Google Sketchup (lastest version) and Google Earth. Good value for $59.

Thank you, Patrice. I think I'll order one.

What are some other controllers that are great to use with SL? One of us here mentioned an Xbox controller....

I installed the newest Linux Ubuntu RC client and the newest drivers for my new spacenavigator . The spacenavigator seems to work, but the client is not seeing the driver. Is the new driver too new?! Or what else could I have done wrong?! :(

Did you check to make sure the space navigator is enabled in SL?

Preferences/Input and Camera/Joystick Setup/Enable Joystick in the top left corner.

Yes, I tried. But the client doesn't find the spacenavigator, the check box is grey: "no device detected"

The easiest way to check if your SN is working is to try it in Photoshop. Nothing is required to activate it there. Try using it to pan a large image.

Edit: Oops, I see you're trying this in Linux. If you have Photoshop on Linux you must tell me how :-)

Hmm. Haven't tried it with Linux. Do you have any other apps that you can try it with?

...the Space Navigator.

Is anyone using this thing?

I use it with Second Life and blender. It's awesome. I've seldom been so impressed with a computer gadget. It can also be used with Photoshop, but all that does is pan the image around, so I don't bother. I've also toyed with it in Google Earth [again, awesome]. So I'm glad you asked, and glad I learned from this thread about the SN.

It's not a replacement for a mouse, though. One must have a mouse device of some kind [trackball, trackpad, mouse, whatever] to move the mouse cursor on the screen or to click or right-click. Just wanted to point that out because I see questions about that now & then.

I use mine on Mac laptop and Mac desktop computers, with the Mac client for OSX. It's the main reason I started using RC 1.20.x clients, which are now not RC clients, but, I suppose, are "optional" clients. Setting up the SN looks simpler than it did in the 1.19 client [I looked that up on the SL wiki, but didn't try the SN in a 1.19 client].
