A boy named Xue - no profile?

I personally know of two avatars who received unsolicited friend requests from a person of this last name, and I see in another thread that someone else appears to have gotten one too. No problem. Except, this person has NO profile. My RA question is, how is he completely hiding his profile? He has NONE that shows up in search people (online or offline), or in search all (new or old), or in an offline database search that is spotty, but useful.

After receiving the first invite I didn't think this was too odd, the account could have been deleted. But my friend received an invite two days LATER, and IN BETWEEN the invites he had no profile. How is this done?

I give the last name here just to attract the attention of others who may have gotten the same odd friend request. I won't be using the first name at all, and I ask others not to as well.

Ironically there actually is an avatar called ABoyNamed Xue.

Now.... In saying no profile.... It's really behaving this way in all tabs? How many times have you retried pulling up the profile in search? Considering how often profiles are borked in general, who knows? With an almost daily head count of 60k avatars and more, I'm sure LL is still playing catchup with the load. (^_^)y

I have no idea who the last name was on the one I declined. I tend to ignore them if I don't know them.

New search, in the People tab, and in the All tab. Also tried old search. I've tried it many times now, once at 2 AM in both our very quiet class 5 sim (zero packet loss, perfect time dilation and sim fps), as well as Hahne. NO profile.

A couple of my newer alts are still not listed in any All search or the various outside databases that I have checked - however, they do still show in the old original People search tab. Two of my older original alts also never showed up in any of the All searches until I added payment info and actually used it. I remember a thread a while back trying to figure out the criteria for how someone finally shows up in the new All search - I am not sure we ever really came to any conclusions. However, I have never known an account to not show up in the inworld old People tab search unless the account had been deleted.

One possibility - the account was removed, possibly due to AR, but some of the Friendship offers had not gone thru yet. I do know that my accounts do not all get notices at the same time. Even when none are logged on, the emails of those notices will sometimes come hours apart.

In other news, I've had a heck of a time pulling up people's profiles lately. I think something weird is going on. Search just won't acknowledge that people exist.

I had two friendship requests waiting for me yesterday. One was from MrJ Xue, and the other was from sn1p3r Footman. Of course, sticking with my "always decline unsolicited friendship requests" policy, I declined them, but I checked for them in search and neither existed.

Looks like someone was playing around with a bot and got himself banned on several accounts.

Isn't there an option to hide your profile in search?
Seems like I've seen that somewhere.

There is option to not have your profile listed on the web in profiles.
Is this why he doesn't show up?

It hides you from offline search, and perhaps from partial-match searches. It does not hide you from a people search for the exact name -- I've tried it.

I received the friendship offer from the same Xue person. Took a second to look at the profile, which had little info in it, then simply muted them.

ditto on the MrJ Xue friendship offer.

I had one from a MonkeyMagic Magic - which I declined. I could not find them in search anywhere either. I thought perhaps it was my name they were attracted to.

But I noticed in my 'IM's to email' I also received the same request for friendship from this monkey on 2 of my business av accounts.

Ah, this was the one that got me! Grrrr, friendships requests from complete and total strangers kind of defeat the point of friendship! *mutters*

Yes me too. Got it yesterday on logging in.

I rechecked search again about an hour ago and the profile was not showing under People tab but I was able to get it from the link brought up by searching in All. (Viewer 1.20.15 if that makes any difference).

Apparently I am in the mood for banging my head on the wall today, which is unusual.

Any attempts at self defense are ultimately futile in the face of a rollicking good witch hunt, to which I seem to have fallen victim of late. Nevertheless thank you all for a moment of your time while I point out a few items which are meaningful to me in context:

1. Nika is not specifically mentioning me. She stated clearly that she meant "someone with that last name", and so it seems she took the opportunity to make a bit of humor (a fun pun?). Nika please understand that my use of the term "witch hunt" was not intended in reference to you.

2. I do have a profile. It does not reveal FL info, but I do indeed have a profile which is filled in, includes a pic, and findable in search. Surprisingly this doesn't take long to verify!

3. I don't send unsolicited invitations. I don't think this alt has sent ANY invitations to anything, unless by some bizzare turn it has been hacked (damned unlikely). The closest I come to harassment/unsolicited communication is to say " Hi! " to other Avis I meet in public. (although this too is akin to harassment in some quarters, sadly)



So, it ain't me, folks. IMO Nika did not intend to make such a claim, although a subsequent poster did. Damned quick on the trigger, too.

I suppose everyone has to have a hobby.

I don't see where anyone indicated they thought that BoyNamed Xue sent out unsolicited IMs.

Someone did mention ABoyNamed Xue but that's a different name, and they seemed to just be amused by the name.

There is certainly nothing even vaguely resembling a witch hunt in this thread. This thread's not even long enough to be a witch hunt, how many witches could you possibly find with a few posts at forums.secondlife.com, anyway?

I wonder how often the people in Salem Massachusetts use the term "witch hunt"?

realem ... the folks there used to be very sensitive about the witch thang, but over 10 years ago decided that it would be better to go with it. Half the downtown is now basically a witch theme park! Between that and the House of the Seven Gables, they got spooky DOWN.

I have to say, if you visit the town and take a close look at how the land slopes up from the big harbor, you can see how storms hit the place like a hammer in the winter. If i were a teenage girl living in one of those dreary 1-room settler cabins with my family, I would go insane too, no need of ergot!
