Ummm, in most states you have to have a license of that state that is witnessed, signed by witnesses, then by a person performing the marriage....then it must be filed within a certain period of time to the appropriate state assigned governing body for recording and retention. Licenses are state/county/city issued and there is usually a residency requirement to meet if not blood tests or other requirements for a license. Comingling of funds could easily happen if you get an SL place together, both people helping to buy the land and paying tier - RL dollars involved here. Then all it would take is a declaration by them both IRL that they are man and wife and there you have it - someone is screwed from that moment on (and not necessarily screwed in a good way).  _____________________

In Colorado, and a few other states, Common Law marriages are recongnized. All you have to do is present yourself as man and wife and comingle funds. At that point, you are married in the eyes of the state and either couple can demand support and/or division of property, etc... when the relationship ends. Comingling of funds could easily happen if you get an SL place together, both people helping to buy the land and paying tier - RL dollars involved here. Then all it would take is a declaration by them both IRL that they are man and wife and there you have it - someone is screwed from that moment on (and not necessarily screwed in a good way). There are usually time requirements for those as well. So if you date someone for a couple years and comongle funds, you still aren't common law husband and wife. I don't know what the minimum time is, but it's a while if I recall correctly. I'm pretty sure that a SL common law marriage wouldn't have any weight in real life. It wouild be interesting to see someone try to get it to work that way, but I doubt it will succeed. _____________________

It wouild be interesting to see someone try to get it to work that way, but I doubt it will succeed. The problem, as it applies to SL though, is that most states do have cohabitation as one of their requirements and I doubt that SL cohabitation would fit that mark no matter how hard you tried. It would, however, be a much more interesting court matter than some of the really dumb things that people currently take to court. _____________________

Did Claire and Graph get married? news to me! What have you guys been doing to me while I've been afk. Jeez! I knew afk is not a good idea, but still! One week without the net in the evening and Ive been married off, rated, got a free sweater(jumper) or robe , had my house burgled and burnt down, dumped in a ditch, have walked around naked, and spoken to a guy who isn't phased by my apparent nakedness? Oh! and my bf is now with Yosef and Bradley!  lol I really think I need to get inworld tonight /me crosses fingers...and toes...and anything else it is possible the cross for luck. me??? nahhh! Why even if she came up to me naked I wouldn't give her the time of day. Im hurt  truly...Not like I would ever walk around naked......um yeah....soooo /me avoids anyone's eyes and looks around, whistling _____________________
