Can anyone recommend a good swimming AO or HUD that will work in prim water (not just Linden water) other than SLwim? I want to be able to swim in a lake I have made on my land, and the SLwim HUD does not work there for some reason.

TheSwimmer from Siggy's WaterWorks (I think that's the name) works well in 'real' water and PrimSwim water, available at the same place.

Before getting The Swimmer by Siggy Romulus check out this jira http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1281 . From what i understand this item was broke with H4 and is not fixable.

Wow.. Bummer. I guess that, despite having an 1/8th-sim pool, I haven't done much swimming lately.
Any idea if Siggy plans a new version that will work on H4? |

There is an update to SLwim (v2.6) and I managed to get it for free by contacting the creator. Perhaps would work? Mine works fine now under H4.

The comment by Andrew Linden that was added just today suggests to me that v1.1 won't ever work. However, based on what he wrote and that there's aparently another one that does work, I would say that it is fixable. --Hugsy _____________________

There is an update to SLwim (v2.6) and I managed to get it for free by contacting the creator. Perhaps would work? Mine works fine now under H4. I am using version 2.6 and the SLwim water that goes with it. For some reason, it acts really weird on my land. Sometimes it does not work at all. Other times the animation will play but I get stuck in one place and can't move through the water. When I can move, I seem to go unrealistically fast, more the speed of a power boat than a swimmer. Also, sometimes the animation changes to a different stroke for a few seconds without me telling it to. The old version worked great before the "upgrade" to Havoc 4. Now I really can't use it at all. And this was one of my favorite things. ![]() |

Siggy Romulus, maker of the Swimmer HUD and Prim-Swim water, seems to have dropped off the face of the planet. He used to be very responsive to customer support issues, and now he is not responding to anyone.
I got a SLwim gadget shortly after Havok 4 broke all the existing swimmer gadgets. It works, most of the time, but does sometimes exhibit unexplained slow downs or speed ups or stroke changes. _____________________

My SLwim works great, the updated version. Only thing I found was that I have to make sure my mysti tool is turned off or I jerk around a lot.

However, based on what he wrote and that there's aparently another one that does work, I would say that it is fixable. I dunno.. Andrew seems to say that the problem is that the old H1 sims would resend the moving_start/moving_end events to scripts then the script changed state and that the new H4 sim code doesn't. Though I have no clue how complicated TheSwimmer code is, this change in H4 of not sending duplicate events doesn't seem like a very serious obstacle. _____________________

My SLwim works great, the updated version. Only thing I found was that I have to make sure my mysti tool is turned off or I jerk around a lot. I've not seen dat problem, though I do float a little low in the water (I'm underwater a bit, likely due to avatar height). Mari _____________________

Mari, I looked like I was being whipped around by a shark!!! It was too funny. I started turning off HUDs and the first was my mysti...then it just stopped and I could swim.

I tried a demo of the SLwim thing at a big store, I think the sim was Fragment.... not bad, but I just wasn't impressed enough to buy one. I just really prefer the anims in my Swimmer. Curiously enough, the treading water anim started working when I was exploring the volcano in Ichelus the other day, but the HUD itself still didn't work. In my home sim, it doesn't work at all... I turn off my AO as usual, but all I get is that 'falling' anim. I just hang there in the water thrashing around. Sigh.... Siggy, come back!! We need you!!
![]() Edit: not that I would understand, since I'm not a scripter, but why exactly do I get the default 'falling' anim when the HUD fails to work? I'm just curious why that plays instead of just having nothing happening. _____________________

Ok, now I'm confused. I have one, having been an avid swimmer in my younger days, and it was working for me. Somewhat. It had a "lag" to it before it'd work. I'll try it out in various Sims & see what happens. _____________________

Funniesy of all was early last year when I put on the giant freebie "Kool-Aid Man" avatar, my GF jumped in it, and it AUTOMATICALLY played a swim animation, that must be hard-coded into SL, from Alpha. I was able to walk around with her "swimming in my head".
If anybody could find out how ta access that "default" old code for swimming, that might be 1/2 the solution. It was automatic, albiet a "fluke". I have no idea why they removed swimming, but just like the weather code, rain code, etc...it's hidden in the Grid and (probably) still active. _____________________

Though I have no clue how complicated TheSwimmer code is, this change in H4 of not sending duplicate events doesn't seem like a very serious obstacle. I probably wasn't clear. I meant to say that LL won't (and IMO shouldn't) do anything on their end to get The Swimmer v1.1 to work. Siggy will have to fix the script (which seems entirely doable). At that point the version number will most certainly get bumped up. All of this means that v1.1. won't ever work (but some potential future version will). --Hugsy _____________________

So the bottom line is that there is NO swimming device anywhere in SL that I can use on my land. Great.

So the bottom line is that there is NO swimming device anywhere in SL that I can use on my land. Great. Well..my AO uses swimming animations if I'm flying underwater. It's the 'Female Animation Overide Set 3' from abranimations. Note that it doesn't keep me underwater or on the water or anything, but it responds properly in that if I'm underwater and flying, the animation is correct. _____________________

Well, thats one great thing about Second Life: If it dont work or doesnt exist- MAKE IT!! ![]() A friend of mine, Kamilah Hauptmann, is doing just that. Right now, she threw together a mermaid AO she has plans to turn into a regular swimmer. I had a chance to beta test it the other day, and it's nothing like a typical AO--as I understand it, it works more like a non-physical vehicle attachment. Anyway, she's looking for beta testers. If you'd like a copy, there's a 50L Relay for Life vendor here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Caledon%20Lionsgate/74/112/22 Aside from the donation, the only other thing she's asking for is a notecard if you should see any bugs. _____________________

There's a bug in the physics that affects many movement related items, including my swim attachment and possibly Siggy's Swimmer. LL declared it fixed months ago, but I reopened the bug because it definitely is not fixed; please vote!

I just bought one of these-- fun, even if one isn't a mermaid! I really like the 'leap out of the water and splash back down' function. I'd love to see her adapt this to add non-mermaid swimming also. _____________________
