IN my opinion, a virtual world should never be so expensive to be a part of in the first place. And I'll admit, I get in on the action just like everyone else, but there as a time that I felt that SL was just a money scam, because when you first discover it, and you go to the website, it looks cool, you get to look really cool and have a virtual avatar and land, and you think, wow, this will be so neat. You get on and realise they have not given you any money to get started...so there you go. From day one, you already need money, and best yet, you have to pay for it, because nobody is going to hire you looking the way you do. So you put in your credit card info and that just makes it way to easy to buy more and more L$ until you are completely broke.
If you add it up, how many residents have logged in in the last month, and about how many of them are premium, jeez...they're billionaires.
On that note, that's the main reason right there that I don't believe tier prices should go up, but that they should go down... It's not like they're starving or not living in mansions for that matter. And I do agree with the statement that if they decrease tier, they would make more money. I have been thinking of buying an Island or two, and I will not able to do it if they raise teir again. Who's making the money here? It's not the residents, that's for sure, unless they are ripping ppl off (no offense to anyone who actually is earning a living in SL)

We the users of sl are only 1mm importances to LLABS. Hence they don`t care about the common people abilty to own land. But instead forus on the $10,000.00 of real monies that they want more. What is $50.00 $100.00 or even $1,000.00 to a company tht going after $10,000.00 and higher?

Why else do you think they keep feeding the inflated account numbers and got rid of unique registrations in the stat reports? As for why the February date keeps coming up. If LL sticks to their 'we'll give a 60 day notice of any price increases' that would be the first date to watch for a Q2 tier increase which would take effect in April.

From: hope Antonelli Okay, its getting on towards the end of January. In their blog LL posted there would be no tier increases in Q1 of 2008. Now, IF they stick to the 60 day warning of any new increases that would make Feb 1 something of a benchmark date would it not? Anyone taking bets on whether they keep tier at current levels, increase it or even give us the promised heads up? Hopefully they grandfather us existing users in...

Well I might think that way and you might and many more, but look how things are going these days on sl. Who knows really............The increase is scaring many but well not know until the that day. Inflating numbers are only for those companies that "THINK" those numbers are correct, but most companies that get involved have moneies to spend ( in their ad or PR part of their companies budget ). Still this is not our game anymore its larger companies now. have a wonderfulDay Usagi

I agree, it seems that SL is getting away from the 'Your World, Your Imagination" thing that made them great. brought in some awesome content creators and let us build a world where we could do or be what we wanted and is now more focused on turning it into a microcosym of todays real life. I think its unfortunate. If you want to come here to buy food, pay bills, find a lawyer to mitigate your divorce proceedings then more power to you. I prefer to come here and escape from reality. I mean, if you have to face the same thing here as in real life...why bother?

I'm not nervous...I sold my island lot, and am now free of any tier. I am now renting an apartment on Rasta, much less expensive anyway!

I mean, if you have to face the same thing here as in real life...why bother? SL is real life enhanced. We can fly, create anything that comes to mind - for free. It is not unconstrained, but it allows us space to grow and make something beautiful - either of prims, or ourselves. Individuals like to pick and choose what mores should apply. But someone's mores might leave another to get hurt - financially, or emotionally. The emotional part we all have to deal with, but the financial part - that is why we have laws. Theft is still theft. And we shouldn't condone it. This medium offers its own challenges to enforcement, but we cannot abandon all rules and norms. Thus there is hope, if you don't see it as some anarchic world with no rules.

I never said a place with no rules, never..someone else just brought up the point that the 'common user' is no longer the focus of Linden Labs recruiting. We got to them into spotlight; now they would prefer that we just sort of fade into the background so the big companies will come and no have to be worried about offending the delicate sensibilites. But I digress...the OP was whether you think LL will raise tiers once the promised' no tier increase in Q1' expires. Carry on...

From: Ciaran Laval I don't know if we're on different wavelengths here, I'm a landlord too but if I wasn't, I'd see no point in having a premium membership. There is very little benefit to it.
Personally I think they should give premium members discounts on LL products, such as we get a discount on classifieds. or they allow non premiums to own land but give premiums a discount on tier fees. Premium membership is not a bad deal at all. Considering that you get a $L300 weekly stipend. Adding it all up, if you pay yearly, premium membership costs you less than $US15 a year... that is a little more than one dollar a month. The amount of entertainment I get from sl is definetly worth that much. .d
