No its not just you. Unfortunately their are snappy hot headed individuals in most forums and this one is no different. I dont usually contribute here cause Ive seen how nasty this particular forum can get. There seems to be a whole group of people here who will use any opportunity to attack and make outsiders feel unwelcome so your better off doing what I do and just read the posts for information rather than get involved in all the trivial pettiness.

How do all these people who register to use the forums (or SL) in January 08 "know how nasty these forums get" ???

Thats like saying you know how bad rush hour traffic is a week after you got your drivers license and drove yourself to high school twice.

Hate to burst everyone's bubbles but the flames don't take place between new players and regular forums posters -

They take place between regular forums posters and EACH OTHER.

People who've been around the forums block at least once are far more likely to get involved in a flame war with others who have been around than anyone new.

Not that there have been any real flame wars in January.

Booby, sometimes its hard to tell with text whats tone is conveyed. i myself have fallen into the trap of thinking someone was being mean when they were just using humor to prove a point. you will find that there ARE helpful people here, stick around. btw, Welcome to the Forumz:)

if you like, i can post a few links to some forums that will make your hair fall out, like certain web giants forums for example.

There's been alot of these all of a sudden Colette. They all claim they've been lurking in the shadows and are only now coming out to express that the forums are too nasty. I find it hard to believe that they are all just suddenly coming out at the same time especially since we've seen it go through periods that have been much much nastier in the past.

Simple fact is that these forums do have a few jerks that like to stir things up but overall it's as tame as a kitten compared to other forums out there.

I can only conclude someone has their alts make these posts or their friends because they are completely absurd.

Welcome? He says hes been here!!??

I know that date is always either the SL sign up date or the date you first provide payment info or first log onto the forums however all that hashes together depending on what the User does.

**At the very least** It means that he couldn't have been reading these forums with that account any earlier than Jan 08.

Its either

1) someone who thinks that in a couple weeks they know it all

2) someone trolling with an Alt.

In either case - a useless source of information.

im giving them the benefit of the doubt..if its an alt they created specifically to troll then karma will get em.

I, personally, think this forum is much more civilised than others I've visited. At least once a week I see this sort of post and it always makes me shake my head and mutter to myself. I'm far from part of the "clique" that people claim they see here, yet I don't get flamed when I ask a question. I don't get flamed when I post on a topic, either. Someone might disagree with me, but I've never felt attacked, put down or jumped on when I make a post. I do see some people who are just annoying, but I tend to just skip over their posts, or do some more head shaking and muttering to myself, and then move on. I don't even bother to put them on an ignore list, because even those people sometimes post an interesting, funny or helpful post. As for the people who post here the most often, I think they're an intelligent, articulate and strong-minded group, so differences of opinion can sometimes get a tiny bit heated, but that's the extent of it. Sometimes a thread is just so ridiculous from the start that *I* want to flame the poster, myself. I often admire the restraint of regular posters on those sort threads, and most times I don't post on them at all because I know I would be really snarky, and don't want to be. I think some people are just way too sensitive and perhaps they should never read these forums, or post to them, unless they have a valid honest question, in which case I know that it WILL get answered..........it always does. If someone is one of those overly sensitive types, read the forums again and show me where an honest, valid question didn't get answered. Show me....just one....go ahead...I dare you.

/me shakes head and mutters......"Yeah, I didn't think so"

My take, for I am a happy camper these days.

a) Mute is a friend I have missed and wondered why I left alone so long.
b) Possibly some people are over sensitive. Perhaps I have been one such, but then I've resolved the issue that was making me feel that way.
c) The answers come and threads don't die a natural death
d) Meh - inworld is the important part anyway - if you're picking away at the minutae of this Forum then maybe SL itself has just become too boring for you.

(Or maybe you're bored at work - guilty!)

I keep being nagged to watch Jeff Dunham. I mean really really NAGGED nagged. I think I shall tonight - I saw the Xmas thing where he was doing SILENCE! Night and that really cracked me up.

This has been my campaign recently - see my "comments" thread. I think people here are ultimately "good" but an anonymous thread allows for frustration and anti-social behaviours to be vented. I suspect this is a feeling of powerlessness that sweeps over a person who can find a small piece of power in this environment. But others are generous in spirit and in nature. I shall continue to urge each of us to treat others with respect and panache. Humour - real humour, not schoolboy or infantile humour - will win each time. We are a global community and each of us represents our culture in some small way.
OMG, I sound old, don't I? Sorry. Anyway, it is minus 26 celcius where I am this morning so I must get my act together in the real world. That means I am one number higher than the temp. in positive value.

Agreed. That being said, a little bit of school room silliness, and spleen venting for that matter can be healthy too.

Look, I've been reading these forums for well over a month now, and can say with the utmost authority that they're really good! :p

Seriously, they are rather tame compared to other forums I've been on ... heck, my local newspaper's story feedback forums are among the nastiest I've seen!

I appreciate all of the help and tips I've learned here, and I also appreciate the wit and wisdom ... oh, and the trolls are fun sometimes too. :)

SILENCE! I kill YOU! Is what Achmed the dead terrorist says... You have to watch Jeff Dunham... He's a ventriliquist (yeah, I know, I probably murdered the spelling of that word) on Comedy Central. I'm pretty sure there is a jeffdunham.com out there too...

I 'ROFLMAO'd when I watched it!!! :D

Fact is, there are nasty people everywhere. Its just easier for folks to be asses in Forums where there's no iminent threat of being punched in the face for it.

The day we can reach thru the screen & strangle someone for being an ass is the day we all start minding our manners.;)
