Hi guys..
I realized the other day when I was trying on a new hair/hat combo that I had been walking around SL with a pea for a head. I had my head size set at 33, and my av isn't that small, so it looked kinda strange. I've now set it to 50, and I think it looks pretty good, but I'm obviously capable of overlooking these things considering I walked around for nearly a year with a tiny head and didn't know it. : )
Anyways...what's a good head to height ratio for a thin female avatar?
Thanks folks.

Basically, 50 for all sliders is 'average', for want of a better word. For the overall size sliders - e.g height, head size, feet size, arm length, hand size etc etc it's best to have the same value set for all of them. E.g a 30 height avatar suits a size 30 head.
All the other sliders are more concerned with shape/proportions than overall size, so play with them to your hearts content.

If you have fluffy hair, it's not that noticeable. No really! *averts eyes* Mine is usually between 45 and 55, depending on how a given hair fits. If I can shrink or expand my head slightly and not have to fiddle with the hair prims, I'll take the easy way out. I so don't get the ginormous head thing, though...there's one designer who puts notecards in with his product suggesting a size 65-70 head size. *shudder* From: Conan Godwin E.g a 30 height avatar suits a size 30 head. By that logic, I should have a size 84 head. Big negatory there, cowboy.

My head in my main shape that I made is 43, which seems to work well for my favorite hair designers in general. I do sometimes have to edit a little bit - particularly if I wear hair from Naughty, which suggests a much larger head size for optimal fit out of the box. It really does depend on your body though - thickness, height and overall mass lol.

Ceera's human form has a head that is just slightly larger than the hair designers aim for. I was aiming for a slightly "Anime" look, with slightly larger head and larger eyes. So I usually have to scale prim hair up just a bit to make it fit.
My Furry forms tend to have heads that are larger than most Humans, since the Avatar head can only be made just so small, and the prim attachments that turn me into a fox or a Kitsune or a wolf or whatever all have to go on top of that. Most of them though, I can still adjust Human hair and hats to fit.

When making avatar shapes, especially for females, I usually draw a figure first with the proportions I want (either realistic RL proportions, or comic book 'standards') and then I adjust the av's appearance sliders while the av standing with the body intersecting the picture, so thatthe picture runs right through the midline of the body. It works really well.
Of course, the drawing isn't an option if you can't draw. I suppose you could use photos for RL proportions, but you'd have to photograph someone standing in the bind pose who happens to have the body shape you're going for.
I also keep a "golden rectangle" prim handy to move around the av in order to spot check proportions as I go. The golden ratio is such a useful 'measuring stick'.
I've never paid enough attention to come up with any rule of thumb like "body size 30 should have head 30", but I think it's worth exploring that. I'll take a look. I'm usually too concerned with looking at the avatar itself to pay attention to what the numbers actually say.

I pay attention to the shape, not numbers ever... if it looks good me to I save it ^^ Sometimes though I will round it to a number cause of OCD... and seeing the rate of change by checking 0, 25, 50, 75, 100 is good sometimes too.

I actually had the opposite problem. I was tired of walking around at 7'3" and shrunk my body down 12", but I forgot to resize my head. I really didn't notice it until someone said something about my giant head one day! LOL
I still feel like hair is made for bigheads though. I have to shrink the styles I buy.

According to the art texts, the ideal proportion for a human adult is 8 heads in height.
A slightly different proportion...8 1/2 heads...gives the traditional "superhero" proportions.

Just checked. My Human form has a head size of 65. I measure 5'7" tall when using an Avatar Ruler, which measures eye height.

I think it was Naughty that gave a notecard suggesting 70-85 for men. Somewhere between 60 and 75 seems to fit male prim hair best IME. I read somewhere, lost to apocrypha, that a bigger head makes one seem more personable. Or what that the eyes? In any case, I think Derevaun's head is close to 70. I can't recall ever seeing someone and being all like, that is one small head you have there. It goes without saying that the prevalent apeman blingtard shape is pea-headed, but who's counting?

Dunno but since my brain rattles around in there like a beebee in a boxcar, I'd guess my head is far too large for my brain.
