For mainland regions, yes. For private regions, they are fixed at $1000, but cost $295/mo vs $195/mo for a full region of mainland.

To clarify a bit, the Lindens said back in May (of this year, 2009) that these 30 full sims would be all they planned to auction for the foreseeable future.
(They had been sitting empty for many months.) They'll auction full sims again only if the demand for land increases substantially. They have a public-relations interest in keeping the per-meter price of land from diving too far (though how far they consider as 'too' far is unknown). Personally, though it's not in my own self-interest as someone who owns a fair amount of land, I think SL would grow faster if land WERE cheaper. But then again, the Lindens don't necessarily want SL to grow faster (due to the practical restraints imposed by the number of servers they must run and related stability issues). |

The "Zindra Effect" is already well on its way to driving mainland down to the L$1/sqm rate.
Zindra land, on the other hand, will probably see a huge surge in price initially, a la Bay City and Nautilus. Speculators just never learn... ![]() |

That is much more the norm. Anyone who sees good land for $1 or $2 Lindens per sq m is welcome to pass me some landmarks. |

Select "Mature Only" and "For Sale - Mainland", then check the Area checkbox and type 512 in the area field. Then click the "Search" button. You'll find a whole lot of land going for about L$2-2.5/sqm, and it is still going down. |

I can't figure out where all that land is. I see it says 2-3 Lindens per sq m (average) in search, but I don't find any. (When I actually go to some of them.)
While flying around SL, I just saw a 4096 on sale for $90,000 Lindens (!) Next to it is an 8192 for almost $60,000 Lindens. PG land, but still it's mainland. And I thought PG was cheaper than Mature? I keep saying, if someone has nice land for sale cheap let me know but my landmark folder is still waiting. Lol. I'm not a flipper but I am starting to look around for nice land, to enhance my SL and maybe do more with it. But not at the above prices! |

My guess is, overpriced land like that is either owned by someone who has no clue about land prices, or by someone who set it for sale years ago, did not sell, and didn't login since, so they don't even know. |

There's a little strip of land near me that's wedged between a zyngo ad and a mall. And the person wants $25,000 for it. I asked him why and he said he needs it for his tier.
Does idle land pay tier? But what can ya do. I don't understand it, either. I have a land question. I'm trying to avoid top tier but it looks like I might succumb to it sooner than later. SO, what is a way to not pay tier twice in the same month? It has to do with billing cycles but I have no clue what people talk about when they say that. Thanks in advance. _____________________

I am a little confused as to whether we are talking about the mean of land sale prices, or the mean price of land currently for sale.
Yes there are people that seem to put an unrealistic high price on land and never sell it. I dont think they really want to, kinda like a 'well if someone wants to give that much, they can have it and ill set up elsewhere' price. However static high price sims/parcels that never sell would certainly push up the mean price of land for sale (but wont affect mean price of land sold) and if Jacks measuring the former then someone should ask him if gaming the land for sale figure is what hes trying to achieve by including all these fake sale high price parcels. Other questions are how do they track the price of sims with objects for sale, are they included or excluded? (of course theres an artificial price bump for both LFS and land sold if objects are included). Finally i think the real pivot point here is the tier. Lands becoming so cheap that the sale price is negligible compared to actually paying tier to stay on it month after month. Infact if land gets much cheaper LL might as well give it away in the hope that noobs will buy a prem and pay tier just to keep it. |

I am a little confused as to whether we are talking about the mean of land sale prices, or the mean price of land currently for sale. Well, I shouldn't say "nobody" because there are botrunners who maintain a database of land for sale prices, and then watch when parcels sell, and make the assumption that the last price listed was the price the land fetched. Maybe this works better than it should, but most of my own land was purchased in private deals where the land was set for sale to me directly and only for a few seconds, at a price often deeply discounted from any that a bot would have seen. |
