A volume detect prim *is* phantom and receives collision events from physical objects.
Yes it is, but that's departing from the discussion. Go back and see how this bit of discussion came about.

Another possibility is a physical phantom prim which receives collision events from land but that would be rather silly to detect visitors so clearly wasn't referred to here.
Land collisions would also be departing from the discussion. llVolumeDetect objects receive land collision events, but that's nothing to do with this discussion.

From: Kitty Barnett
A generic phantom prim doesn't receive any kind of collision event but noone was talking about those.
That's exactly what was being talked about.

if they're smart they'll correlate with purchases, then you can not only see who's getting attention, but also who's product/pricing draws the best.... because it's useless to know if people show up if you don't know if they buy (they may have an interesting product, but the price is hurting sales volume for instance))

Yes exactly!

Perhaps an approach like this would sway some mall owners.

The annoyance factor of TPing to a store and landing 187 meters away is of course squared, if it's a no-fly parcel.

I used to put up with that in my noob days, when I knew so few places to shop. These days, I just leave.

I set all my teleports to a forced spot for 2 reasons:

1 - I had to raise my store about 4 meters a while back (due to a neighbor raising his land beside me.) This caused everyone who teleported in from an old landmark to end up in my non-existent basement. While I thought it was sort of funny, my customers didn't seem to think so.

2 - When I have a Midnight Mania board on my outside wall, it sends out a SLURL that puts the tp point outside my store. While it isn't hard to get inside, it just didn't seem right.

Forcing a teleport to a spot resolved both issues.

Of course, my store isn't all that big (not like a mall.)
