It's definitely a thought. As much as OpenBSD is normally massive security overkill, for a high security system used just for browsing it might make sense. Other suggestions include getting a Linux live CD (Ubuntu does a perfectly good live CD as part of its installer) and boot off that. Really hard to infect write-once media :)
Unfortunately, real hard to set session cookies, too. Still, not a bad idea!

Session cookies shouldn't be a problem, persistent cookies might be.

But with all the reports we keep seeing of account theft at both big and small credit card companies and other businesses, I wonder whether personal computers really are a common source of breeches. Why go after a PC with at most a handful of accounts when you could go after Network Solutions and get thousands?

The problem is that if you are not a business and your computer is hacked or if your credit card is hacked, a company check is bleached and diverted or your account numbers are hacked, you are covered, either by the FDIC, your bank or the credit card company. BUT if your company computer is hacked and they take control of it, connect to your bank and initiate a wire transfer you are not covered. The bank can TRY to get it back but if they can not then you are out of that money. We are a small company and yet you are still talking $600K to $800K in any given week in different accounts. That is a lot of liability to not consider taking more extreme security measures.

The other part of the problem is that this is a particularly tasty target for a criminal. A lot more money and it is accessible immediately.
