From: Nic Writer Ack! Caught by a necropost!
I was a hostess from May 2007 until the middle of this year, with a few months off here and there when RL caught up with me.
Interesting, though - I know there's been a more recent thread about tipping at clubs, and the comment was made that tipping had declined "in recent times" - and yet I see the same statement being made in a two-year-old thread... I don't think I've seen a 2 year old necropost here before. How the hell did they find it?

Dancers, eh.. I've personally not tipped a dancer, mostly because, its not very hard to load up an animation, and take off clothing.. and quite frankly, most dancers I've seen, do just that. And occasionally say "I'll take off X peice of clothing for X more L" .. pfft.. not hard there.
Stephanie and Lyla22 replied to this point well, but I'm adding my 2L as well. Yes dancers use chims, poles, animated dances...and as Stephanie pointed out, most of the time, they come from the dancer's pockets. Dances aren't cheap when you add up how many you need to make a great performance. On my chim I have at least 20 Sine dances and at $250+ each...well it adds up to a lot of $$$s. Not to mention, as was pointed out, the appearance and wardrobe they need to be in theme for events or to look sexy and desirable. Not cheap either! But they also have to know the dances, be able to emote with them and keep it sexy and interesting. They have to keep "smiling" and on show when they might be having a bad day and not feel like being happy and flirty. They have to keep the chat moving and the atmosphere sexy with their emotes and conversation...despite being neglected for tips in favour of DJs and hosts. I agree many dancers do just jump on a pole and expect money to roll in, but some of us do jump on the pole and then emote emote emote! You try coming up with sexy, fun, flirty emotes for 2hrs and then tell me dancers do nothing! In my dancing days, I worked my butt off doing sexy emotes, teasing and flirting, making everyone welcome...and I soon lost the enthusiasm for the job when I would end shift after shift with less than $100 in my tip jar after 2hrs...or even worse...nothing. Maybe this is why the classifieds are full of adverts for dancers. Because if the attitude of clubbers is anything like the ones in above replies...why bother wasting time entertaining and trying to make money through dancing and flirting when its so looked down on as to not even be taken as something that does require effort and skill and should be appreciated too. For the record...I tip the ones I feel are doing something to deserve recognition. Simply playing music or greeting and having a tip jar doesn't cut it for me. As for dancers...I want to see quality emoting.

From: Lyla22 Mistwallow ...Having said that.. I believe tips should be based on each individual's performance.. Hold everyone on the same standard.. say start at 100L and if they are better than average.. tip higher.. if not.. maybe tip less.. see how you feel each time? I def have DJ's I like better, etc. That's consistent with the dancers I know. In fact, one of them spoke of herself as following the "100L standard"...a tip of that amount results in the removal of an article of clothing, along with appropriate sexy chat. Less than that gets you a "thank you", a wink, and maybe a little tantalizing emote. More gets you a more elaborate emote...

From: Meade Paravane Height discrimination! Height discrimination! Sigh. OK...have a cow, ma'am. /me leads in a 900 pound heifer, who begins to placidly pull wisps of hay from the rick. /me looks at the extremely cute, four-ounce hedgehog. Have at it.
