They don't need anything that complex.

Just do things the way they were before June 2006.

You had to provide a valid credit card or Paypal account to play.

Free, but verified.

Okay I think I've got it figured out. First world countries are developed countries, the the U.S. or the UK, etc. Second world countries are those that are now developing, like some parts of I dunno, Indonesia. Third world countries are those that are not developed yet, like parts of "primitive" Africa.

To answer the question: no.
To answer it more: if you think premium account is to expensive now then stop buying premium? I barely see any different between the two accounts.

I'm afraid I don't understand your answer.

I will start by saying I have a paid membership, although I don't know why and am considering canceling it. The more time I spend in sl the less I really need land or a place to live. I am too busy working or doing other stuff (in world). Really, what do I need land or a house for?

I have been in sl for a bit under a year and it just keeps getting worse. Lag is worse, each new viewer is worse than the old one, changing the content ratings is really screwing some people, then you hear the rumors of combining the teen and adult grids. Not to mention Xstreet is worse now that LL took it over. If they do away with free memberships I will leave SL. And I doubt you will get many people to join.

As far as non paid accounts having no in world wealth? Are you nuts? You have as much wealth as you are willing to spend on buying lindens. I know several that think nothing of spending thousands of lindens at the drop of a hat and they do not have paid accounts. I myself do thousands of dollars (lindens, not US lol) of transactions on daily to weekly basis and my paid membership would not effect this at all. I don't own land anymore. Why am I paying the membership fee? For the customer service? for the 300L a week lol. I normally just give it away anyway.

For most SL is a way to pass time and really not worth having to pay a monthly fee. When I joined had they had a free trial period then you had to pay I would not have even bothered signing up. And in a months time I certainly was not addicted enough to drop7-10 dollars a month on it. So what will happen is you will get a reduction in members, and then a constant influx of newbs since most will not stick around once they have to pay. They will leave and get replaced by other newbs.

A lot of people think like me, its the internet and I don't pay for much in the internet. Normally you can find something similar for free if you look hard enough. And others simply don't want that kind of info on the internet. And others yet believe it or not don't have credit cards. Had I been required to show payment information before signing up I would have closed the window right then and never given SL a second thought. And now I spend hours upon hours in world building, selling, buying and helping others. Heck sometimes I think SL should pay me, not the other way around lol.
