The preview for 1.11 is back up.
I had been hoping the flash effect and the picture dropping away animation were gone.
They are still thee.
It looks like garbage. Make these useless gimmicky effects optional.

To reiterate what I posted in General: I too dislike the "white flash" effect. On my 19" screen, the white flash is jarring, it hurts my eyes and leaves an unpleasant too-bright aftervision. The other snapshot functions seem nice enough & quite usefull. Anyway, I guess I can always close my eyes or use printscreen

I would love to see the day when we have an Interface section of the preferences window, where we can disable all the fluff they've added since 1.5 (or earlier), one option at a time. Spinning inventory arrows, fading selections, the fade-in pie menus in 1.12, and now this. There has to be more than me, Yiffy, and Suezanne who are irritated by this crap, why must we be made to suffer with an increasingly Apple-esque interface?
(NOTE: Before I get flamed for this, I have nothing against MacOS, but the interface seriously makes me twitch. I run Windows in classic mode.)

From: Felix Uritsky (NOTE: Before I get flamed for this, I have nothing against MacOS, but the interface seriously makes me twitch. I run Windows in classic mode.) I run my desktop, start menu, and control panel as Windows clasic, but I like the curved edges and soft blue of the windows themselves (instead of the hard steel grey of Win9 . So, now, as I go to download the preview, I'm sure I'll agree.

From: Felix Uritsky why must we be made to suffer with an increasingly Apple-esque interface? I see nothing Apple-esqe about the changes you're talking about. They're more like WinAmp meets 80s BBS ASCII Graphics.

By Apple-esque, I'm referring to the fact that they're pretty and fluffy for the sake of being pretty and fluffy, which is something I've seen in Apple OSes for years (dock menu, anyone?). I see fluffball interface, I think Apple.

If you don't like the white flash and picture dropping away effects, please post here and say so. I don't know who you would send email to about it.

From: Felix Uritsky By Apple-esque, I'm referring to the fact that they're pretty and fluffy for the sake of being pretty and fluffy, I hate to say it, but "pretty" isn't the word I'd use to describe SL's user interface. From: someone is something I've seen in Apple OSes for years (dock menu, anyone?) Funny, the Apple Dock made me think of Windows 95 and all the stupid special effects that got added in in Windows 98.

Pretty is certainly not the word for SL's UI look. Grotesque would be more appropriate.
It could be ugly but still lean, functional, efficient, and effective. It doesn't need to have it's ugly appearance rendered even more annoying with useless, non-functional, simulated flash bulbs going off and moronic animated pictures dropping away.
If you don't like the white flash and picture dropping away effects, please post here and say so.

Yep, hate it, bug reported it, because in my opinion, it makes taking product photos painful, and awkward. It *must* be optional, or not there at all, or it ruins the experience of SL for many of us that are find rapid flashes uncomfortable. The dropping-away effect is annoying too, but I'll grant that with the 'adjust camera after snapshot' feature, there needs to be some visual indication that you're returning to 'real time'. However, the dropping-away still occurs on a keyboard initiated snapshot-to-disk (ctrl-') i believe, where you don't enter the non-real-time mode anyway. *THERE* it should not occur, ever. I don't really have enough experience of the adjusting-camera feature to really judge it, I can see that it could be useful, but it will take experience and time to de-program ourselves from the 'make sure the shot is framed perfectly before we hit the key' mentality, before we can judge it truely.

From: Yiffy Yaffle I liked how it used to be.. How about LL leaves things alone that arent broke? :/ Yiffy, you must not have been around me when I was trying to get pictures of people dancing. How do you like hearing the camera sound about 20 times in a minute? >_>; But on topic, I like the flash effect and the fallaway effect, personally. Are they useless fluff that just makes you ooh-aah? Mostly, yes. but I think they add something to taking snapshots. I do quite regularly these days and its going to give a little more sense of involvement to photography since you actually do something. A little more realism. Should be it be an option? Well, honestly I don't know why you're _so_ angry at this new feature but sure. Lets make them waste more time coding in a switch to "Disable photo effects in snapshot"

ok this is a great idea that linden has here...freezing the world can be very useful but i agree that the option for a quick shot should still be available cause not all pics need to be perfect also i don't see what the big deal is with the flash people...calm down like it's not hurting u in any way why get all hostile and vulgar about it?? i agree that their should be an option to turn it off cause it might be 2 bright for some people or something but no need to get all pissed off...o and the drop effect is sweet like Kamatz Kuhr said it's better than hearing the camera sound like 20 times....another thing referring to yiffy is that no it was not broken but don't you like a company that finds way to better itself and not just keep the same product all the time??

From: SuezanneC Baskerville If you don't like the white flash and picture dropping away effects, please post here and say so. I don't like them, I also don't like the way you're locked up while you're deciding what to do with a snapshot, the way the snapshot obscures the whole screen, and pretty much everything else. This kind of heavily modal interface is horrible. I was hoping it would grow on me, but no... The snapshot should display a thumbnail, the way it used to, and then have an option to take "live snaps" if and only if you ask for it. Now if they were to give us this 3d snapshot view for texture uploads, so we could preview them on our own avatar, THAT would be useful. But for snapshots it's appalling.

It is so nice to see that now it is live instead of preview, there are 10-100 times as many people complaining in all the other forums.
Now, if only they'd listened to the feedback they got in this forum, maybe they would have put out a better version of the code.

I have tested it and its to bright.... no need to make it that bright... but a ”hint” that you did take a snapshot are nice...
And I wil not love it that bright when I do many snaps in a row...

From: Bitzer Balderdash If it is taking that long to rez, I would suspect that you are suffering from packet loss issues....
A rather late reply, but I checked. No, it's not packet loss. When this happens, packet loss is normally at 0. NOTE TO SUEZANNE: At least I haven't posted any kitten pics.
