Second Life will be 2-years old on June 23rd, so we're having a celebration!

WHEN: June 23rd, starting at 3:00pm

WHERE: We've reserved the sims Bethel, Brilliant, Fortuna and Georgean. The main event area will be at the middle of this area, where the corners of the 4 sims meet.

WHAT: The theme of the celebration will be "Remembering the Past and Celebrating the Future." Here's some of what we have planned.

* Beta Time Capsule Display
Last year we unearthed the Beta Time Capsule (buried on 6/22/2003) and displayed the contents. In case you missed it last year, we'll have these items on display again!

* Live Linden DJ
Adam Linden will be DJing the event, and we'll have a special dance area where Residents can get down and get funky. Dust off your best dance animations and join the party.

* Historical Garden
Many beautiful objects and builds have been lost in the mists of time. We're going to find as many of these amazing items from the past as we can and rez them in a Historical Garden. Buildings and objects will be laid out in a large area where Residents can freely explore them.

* Gallery of Dreams
Taking pictures in Second Life is the main way people keep images of treasured past events. The Photo Gallery of Dreams will feature pictures of a historical nature, giving Residents a glimpse into some of the amazing things that have happened in the past 2 years.

* The Legacy Tower
This year we're going to do something a bit different. Instead of creating a new time capsule to bury in the earth, we're going to begin work on The Legacy Tower. We want to create an artistic build that will be a permanent and growing celebration of all the faces and thoughts of the Residents of Second Life. Any Resident interested in participating will be given the opportunity to submit one inworld photograph of their avatar and a notecard message they wish to share with the world. The Legacy Tower will ultimately incorporate and permanently display all of these images of Residents. When a visitor clicks on an individual Resident's image, their notecard will be handed out. After the event, the Tower will be set up in a special place (to be announced) in Second Life where it will have a permanent and public home. And we'll keep taking photo and notecard submissions after the event, adding them to the growing Tower over time.

* Rides and Free Popcorn
We'll have some fun amusement-park rides and all the popcorn you can eat!

VOLUNTEERING: We want to find as many historical builds, objects, and photos as possible. This is where all of YOU can greatly help! If you have any such items you think would be fun for this event, please contact Pathfinder Linden. And if you're a New Resident who wants to try and help in some way, please contact Pathfinder as well.

That's it. Hope to see you there! Any additional details about this event will be posted in this thread, so keep an eye out. :)

P.S. If you'd like to learn more about the History of Second Life before the event, please be sure to check out the SL Historical Wiki at http://history.secondserver.net.
