Would it be at all feasible to have a tickbox on our Accounts page declaring all creations royalty-free (following an explanatory paragraph or two), with the aggregated data from all people going into a searchable database? I'm still thinking about how unticking the box would work - maybe that's the part that makes it unworkable (if you used something legally in a project then, the day after you finished creator X unticked the box).

I think the decision about how or if a royalty free option ever becomes part of SL is essentially a Linden Labs decision.
For the moment I think it's just important that the debate about copyright takes place.
I take your point about it being an opt in, rather than an opt out. I'll make sure that view is expressed in any conversations I undertake.
As I said before, this is an issue that I'm actively engaged with... so, watch this space.

From: Protagonist Losangeles I think the decision about how or if a royalty free option ever becomes part of SL is essentially a Linden Labs decision. Yes, of course, but we need to express what we would like or not like to have. I think one tickbox in accounts is preferable to a tickbox on every item. Not just because my fingers are worn out by the permissions system, and that I think others would be more likely to opt-in if they didn't have to work hard to do it, but also because the data could be gathered and managed on the SL website and not contribute to lag inworld.

You're right. That does make more sense. I'll pass that on, should I get the opportunity.
