Congratulations to all the winners at the Sailboat and Pirate Ship Show! Be sure to tell everyone you meet in the grid that you are a WINNER and your winning boat can be seen at the Sailboat and Pirate Ship Show until Saturday 27 May 2006. Revel in your victory quickly, for the Sanchon Docks will disappear when the VYC sailboat racers take to the waters at 7 PM SLT that Saturday.

We had 29 boats participate in the competition -- 22 boats in the sailboat categories and 7 boats in the pirate ship categories. Voting was open to everyone, with votes weighted depending on if the voter listed one to three boats per category. The boats with the most points were deemed our winners, sharing a split of the overall L$21,004 in donations from our various sponsors!

The Special Myrrh Massiel SILLIEST OF SHOW AWARD -- Myrrh Massiel donated L$4 with a grand vision that it be used to promote silliness for all sailing kind. The recepient of this award has demonstrated that what his boat may lack in elegance, it will make up with pure silliness by bring a goofy smile to all who see it pass along the horizon. If they can see it at all. The Silliest of Show Award goes to... The Wee Tiny Tako by Kanker Greenacre. Spend your L$4 wisely, good man.

All winners will also gain access to Bear's Marinas, several locations spread across the wide grid -- offering ports leading to the open waters of Second Life. More details about the docks now available to the winners can be found „.

A special thanks to everyone who put a boat out, whether for the competition or the exhibition. We had a section dedicated to the evolution of the boat that inspired this boat show: the Flying Tako by Kanker Greenacre! The rest of the exhibition showed a huge variety in designs, doubling the number of boats in the harbour. From a tiny powerboat to massive galleons, gritty fishing boats to pleasure yachts. The crafstmanship of everyone is what made the show a true success. Thank you, once again.

All of us involved in organizing this boat show hope we have sparked an enthusiasm for sailing and boats in general within Second Life. There is an ever growing list of groups that work to provide various forms of entertainment on the waters (** denotes boat show sponsor):

** Second Life Sailing Federation (SLSF) -- An open group for all who enjoy sailing in Second Life. The SLSF has its own forums at: /273/1.html. Learn about the Flying Tako, sailing tactics, details about the various races using the Tako, and events promoted by the SLSF. This group is always open to promoting sailing events in Second Life.

** Buccaneer's Sailing Federation (BSF) -- A new group for those interested in promoting fun and loose regattas as well as various pirate-themed events on the waters. BSF Founder Static Sprocket was the initial force behind the first and second boat shows in Sanchon. The home port for the Buccaneers can be found at the sim Christabel.

-- Flapjack's Sailing and Yacht Club (FSYC) --Another new group interested in promoting the fun of sailing, located off one fo the largest linden water lakes at the sim Chong?. People are more than welcome to use the marina at any time as a jumping off point to the water beyond, and to use the clubhouse on the hill as a place to relax.

-- Starboards Yacht Club (SYC) -- The SYC sails out of the Hollywood sim and the surrounding Channel Islands‚. Members provide instruction to those of all levels of experience, from absolute novice to expert-level, at 2 PM SLT Sundays and 6 PM SLT Thursdays. The SYC hosts a regatta at 3 PM SLT every Sunday and have been known to have fun sailing events like sailboat soccer.

** Vagabonds Yacht Club (VYC) -- The VYC is dedicated to sailing wherever they can across the Second Life grid, but calls the Sanchon sim its home. The VYC is dedicated to bringing the ISAF Right of Way rules to Second Life, though knowledge of the rules beforehand is not necessary. Regattas are held at 7 PM SLT every Tuesday and Saturday -- location has been known to vary, but will be announced as soon as it is known.

(If I missed any active yacht clubs, I do apologize. These are the only ones I know about personally.)

** Foundation for Rich Content (FFRC) -- Beyond sailing is a world of diverse, enriching content. In the vastness of Second Life, it is easy for such work to go ignored or succumb to the costs of running an event. The FFRC seeks to provide the tools and funding necessary for people to bring their content to a larger audience. Having applied for their sponsorship for the boat show without any knowledge of what I was doing, I can attest to how amicable this group can be when you ask for their aid. More information on how you may donate or apply for funding can be found on the forums here:
