POT SWEETENER: A COPY OF SOMEONE COMES TO TOWN AUTOGRAPHED BY CORY DOCTOROW!
Just got the OK from Cory-- the prototype selected in the July Expo will also win for its creator a personalized autographed copy of the tree-derived version of Someone. (Thanks to the Resident who suggested this as a prize.)

Hamlet, in the next few big patches, there will be major changes in how this particular contest would be done. I dont think investing mounds of time in this will be useful in the long run as we all throw this stuff out as the new patches hit.

What changes are you referring to, though? Cory's book comes out in July, he's appearing in-world in July, and the only possible feature I know that would affect this (text prims) isn't scheduled for before then.

Final deadline for Book Expo: Friday June 10th, Noon (PDT)
If you're creating a prototype for the Expo, you must send me or show me a copy of it by that date and time!
Book Expo opens: Monday, June 13th.
Time and place to be determined. Residents will then have a chance to vote in-world on the prototype they like best, at the site.
Prototype winner selected announced: Monday June 20th, Noon (PDT)
At that point, I'll work with the winning prototype creator to publish the official SL version of Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town for general Resident viewing on July 1st-- the same day Cory's book appears in stores, on the Web, PDAs, etc.
So if you're working on a prototype now, and haven't contacted me, do so ASAP! We're heading toward the final stages here...

Call for Cory Doctorow avatars!
We're also gonna need a new Docotorw avatar, for the book club. Cory would like his AV based on his real life appearance-- see attached photo.
If you'd like to become Cory's official avatar creator, create a rough "sketch" avatar based on the pic below, and send me a screenshot of it-- or post it here in this topic. I'll send the entries to Cory, who'll choose the avatar artist he'd most like to work with-- who'll then polish up Cory's AV in preparation for his July appearance.
Winner gets full promotion of their AV-building talent in NWN, and I'll ask Cory to autograph a copy of *Someone* for his avatar creator, too.
Deadline for Cory "sketches": Noon (PDT), June 17!

I'm going to use this post as my personal blog. Since SL is down and i'm bored. Well, they expo is great. The best part is hanging around with the other creators waiting around incase somebody comes by. Not very much people have come by and even less has voted. maybe they all came when i went to bed. But the people that came by where all great and some even gave me some ideas to improve. 1. Atleast one more book will be added in my prototype. Falk bergman is/was busy creating the textures for that. And Moriash is kind enough to fund it. They will do the same for their prototypes offcourse. 2. I will create a smaller device, for better use on (your) land. It will be based on the same design and technology. 3. Bookmarks. I'm thinking of creating a way to store bookmark in a attachment. And be able to share them. Rivier Mondrian suggested this. These are atleast my plans to do this week. I have some more complicated ideas. But those will be more viable once html on prims is here. But please come by and check out all the great Prototype's at the Expo.

Think it was Hiro Pendragon who first pointed out the potential of Snapzilla as a reporting tool; it certainly works to officially announce the winner of the Expo! Congrats to Falk Bergman, and to the other prototype creators!

Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town is now available free to all Residents! Go to Bonifacio (240, 250) to find the dispenser, which puts a copy (called "Paperback" into your inventory. Just rez it out of your inventory, and start reading... Trouble with the book? IM the publisher, Falk Bergman, for technical support.

Heh, check it out. This is from the current issue of Wired Magazine, profile of tech publishing magnate Tim O'Reilly by Steven *Hackers* Levy: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.10/radar.htmlWhat's on Tim's Radar?O'Reilly is known for being early to scope out tech trends that are innovative, world-changing, or just plain cool. Here are some things he was gushing about this summer.By Steven Levy It's a wonderfully weird time, as lines between the online and physical realms cross. Example: Cory Doctorow's virtual book signing on the Second Life site.
