since the last 2 updates i have been haveing problems with Avitars not being visable / just their prims can be seen / problem is not on my end / i'm sure of that / I have re-istalled several time / lost my inventory items - and put new Nvidia 6200 series with 256 meg ram / problem persist's / i about ready to quit the game if problem not resolved soon

Stability to handle large amounts of resis in world and even in the same sim at the same time. Heck, even Philip crashed yesterday (the most hilarious point of the Townhall, btw, besides the virtual rape of Travis someone...). When the CEO of the company crashes due to this problem, it's a major problem.

Here is a question that I wanted to see answered at the TownHall but which was deftly evaded. It did get a lot of support in the forums ( see /108/50/92790/1.html )

The solution does not require a new version of SL. It just requires some rational decisions about landscape and sim placement.

Get out the map and look at the far southeast continent. See the notches in the coastline? Why are there notches in the land? Then look closer. See how there are odd choke points in the water around the continent that make it tricky to sail or fly around the island without hitting ban lines, builds, and security scripts? Why is this?

Here is the text of the question that did not get answered at the town hall:

When will you connect the navigable void water sims on the mainland?
In the far southeast continent, you have created a series of islands surrounded by water. However, there is not a continuous ring of protected not-for-sale water sims around this continent, so people boating or flying aircraft contend with security scripts, ban lines and obstructive builds. When will you connect the protected water sims you already have in place, so that we have the infrastructure to use our boats and planes properly? If you want resident-created content and events, you need to provide at least some infrastructure to support us. Give us navigable water, please.

We know that void sims are much much less expensive to provide than regular sims. Linden Labs left out the roads and other transportation infrastructure in the southeast continent. Can you provide at least a ring of navigable water to an area with land designed specifically to appeal to a marine/boating community? This issue applies to the other mainland continents as well, but the need is acute in the southeast continent, as the formerly open water gets clogged with builds, ban lines, and security scripts...and we don't have any roads. The payoff is the greatest here too, since a few more void sims will make it possible to navigate around the continent independent of the whims of specific landowners.

Specifics:
1.) Link protected water Daebeom-Pulsori with Byeolgwadal-Garam-Nana by putting one sim east of Danbi

2.) link the existing protected water sims Daebeom-Pulsori to Haneulgil, with a one sim east of Haneulgil

3.) Link protected water in Cheongdam-Jilseo-Sandeulbaram-Banpo-Tal-Jinju-Dongbaekmaeul-Neulchan-Daseuri with Haengbok by putting one sim west of Haengbok and one north of Cheongdam

Steps 1-3 use 4 void sims to consolidate the existing navigable water on the east and west side of the continent. These two areas can be links by adding 7 protected water sims: north of Haengbok, west of Sanchon, north of Haneulgil, north and northeast of Yongchon, north and northwest of Sanchon.

The client needs to make more use of available resources.

The SL client does NOT make use of available RAM. The most I have ever seen is about 300Mb assigned to the SL client. WHY use 1000Mb of disk cache when I have far more available unused RAM?

The SL client does NOT make use of available Graphics memory. The most I have seen used is approximately 128Mb of the available 256Mb - why?

There are performance issues with the SL client where the inworld performance is gradually declining with each update, failing to make use of available resources is not helping.

Screw Havok. If they're not giving us ropes or anything else cool like that it's of limited importance to upgrade it.

HTML will be nice, but so would being able to tell what the client's actually loaded.

I agree. In my opinion and pretty much everyone I know, this is the worst update ever. I log in and only see attachments for up to a half hour. I can't even play the "Change Group to Rez Things" game because I can't click on myself because I'm not there, just attachments. I am not even seeing gray loading textures anymore, they are mainly white. Chat lag is ridiculous, I see things me and my friends type anywhere from right away to 5 minutes later. People are getting tired of being told it is their computers when they work fine on anything else. Every update takes my enjoyment and ease of use down a notch and it is very sad. Updates should improve things, not make them worse.

New updates need to be TESTED thoroughly (especially large ones) before bringing them to the public. Instead of bringing out as many updates that they can as fast as they can, they need to be troubleshooted for awhile. People shouldn't need a pc built by NASA to be on SL. We don't need stupid things like inventory arrows and editing appearance text, what we NEED is better performance!

If it weren't for my very close friends and all the time,$, and effort I have put into SL... I would uninstall SL and never look back. If it gets much worse than it is now, then I will have no other choice but to leave...

I wish they would fully restore the last digit of precision in the prim edit parameters, like for cuts and things.

In the Events listing, I wish we could filter on different categories, so I can filter out "Commercial" for instance.

I wish chat range was just a little farther. Like 25 meters.

The permissions system could be improved. I've heard talk about a revamped permission system that will include first-sale, wrappers, stateful permissions and other goodies.

Better search features. If I search for "wings" right now, not only do I get all "wings" but also all swings. Ideally it would be nice to have a description box on land and then something like a tag search, where you get a specific amount of tags or words to describe your land/items for sale. SL is getting so big that finding things is really irritating.

Kala, I agree. Did you see the video from the recent meeting between GOOGLE and LL? I hope LL plans to grab some search tech from that partnership. :)

Otoh, the partnership could lead to the Feds combing SL for radical leftists and demanding that LL turn over all records of sex-ball activity. :)

Wait, just remembered they nerfed joints. I take back the previous statement.

And just for the hell of it, I'll add my personal most wanted feature: good client side prediction for movement (including scripted movement). Never gonna happen, but neither's my RL Marty McFly hoverboard and I still wish for that.
