In early October, I'll devote an entire week of NWN entries to avatar fashion in Second Life, and the world's top designers. Four concerns arise at this point:
1 - I don't want any appearance of favoritism, in my coverage. 2 - I don't necessarily want to cover the most *financially* successful designers; rather, the most widely admired. 3 - I don't want to cover fashion that is highly derivative of real world designers. 4 - I know next to nothing about fashion. (Except maybe when it comes to dressing myself, though my girlfriend would hotly dispute even that claim.)
So that's why I need help from my NWN readers. If you love SL fashion, here's your chance to tell me about your favorite designers. Name them here, and after 10 days or so, I'll tally up the votes, and begin my coverage accordingly. So the questions to answer here are:
- Who are your three favorite in-world designers? (Also feel free to explain why, for possible quotation in NWN, and remember, their stuff must not be too derivative of real world designers.) - Who are your two favorite *up and coming* designers, who've only been residents for less than six months?
If you don't want to post here, feel free to IM your vote to me, and I'll post the names here as anonymous nominations.

To make this truly representative of the SL community - Hamlet, please organize several inWorld events that will be listed and promoted to involve the 95% of residents who are not involved here on the Forums.
Thank you.

That's the kernel of a real good idea, Merwan, thanks. Let me think about how best to do it; it may have to be a Linden-sponsored event on public land, in which case, I'll need to talk with Haney. I don't think "several" events would be feasible, but perhaps one or two events where all fashion designers and their models can show off their wares, and a large wall where they can leave screenshots of their stuff, displayed for a whole week, and some kind of touch-key ballot box so people can vote on them whenever they like.
In any case, I still want to encourage people to post their nominations here or via IM, in case they can't make any Events we may have. (Also, if any of the designers can't make those Events, nominating them here will still put them on the ballot box.)

Hamlet,
Established merchants:
1. Damanios Thetan. His main store was a total kick in the head the first time I laid eyes on it, and I've bought a fair amount from him since then. I like his style, and I wish I had his taste.
2. Lion Valentino, for casual wear. I don't wear his stuff much personally, but my my alt whines at me every Stipend Day about seeing what's new at Jungle Wear out in Awa.
3. VonShania Falcon. I only own one of her outfits, her country-style suit, but it's first-rate work, and I invariably get complimented on it.
Up-and-comers:
1. DNA Prototype. This dude is an artist. His Frequency Deluxe club/shopping complex out in Sakai is in a very thin Notable Sights folder that I pass out to new folk looking for inspiration, and I own about half of his clothing line. For talent, he rivals the Seacliff group, and that's the highest praise I know how to give.
2. Keesor Molinari, co-owner of the "Second Life Anime Cosplay" shop out on Briarcliff Manor. I never thought I'd buy an anime avie, but I was totally blown away by his shop, and was receiving compliments on his Uchiha Sasuke interpretation literally within minutes of donning it. He and his partner Atmos Kuroda are just starting out, and have a limited product line, but his store is now on my list of periodic rounds. When he and his design team finally cough up a detailed Vash the Stampede model, I'm pretty sure I'll snag one right before I check to see how much it costs.

OK, the New World Notes Fashion Expo is coming together! Sometime next week (I'm eyeballing Monday, 7pm PDT), the Lindens and I are gonna have a runway for fashion models and next to it, a long display wall, where I'll be posting screenshots of designers' best clothes, as they submit to me. The event will be open to anyone and everyone-- music! dancing! hosted by yours truly!-- and then over the following week, people can come by the site to check out the featured designers, and select their favorite nominations by IM to me. The top five designers by vote will be featured over a week in October, in New World Notes. CALL FOR DESIGNER SCREENSHOTS! I am now taking *three* screenshots from any and all designers who send them to me over the next 2 weeks, and post them on a display wall to be featured at the NWN Fashion Expo site, location TBD. Send them to me in a *labeled folder* that clearly states who the designer(s) are (I.E., "Fall Fashions by Katerina Schlegel" , and label each of the three screenshots with your name, and the name of the clothing modeled. (I.E., "Sassy Noon, a bikini ensemble by Katerina Schlegel".) If you've been a resident for *less than six months*, and want consideration in the Up-and-Comer category, label your folder and screenshots as such. ("Up-and-Comer", or "UAC".) Aesthetic/rules notes: - For this expo at least, please keep the emphasis on real world fashion, i.e., stuff you're likely to see on a Milan catwalk-- as opposed to, say, a fashion show in Rivendell or an intergalatic space colony. - By submitting screenshots, designers are attesting that the designs are their own works, and not patently derivative of known real world designs. - No nominations or design submissions from alt accounts.

This looks like a fantastic idea, SL has grown so fast that i have lost track of all the new people in the fashion world. I'm waiting with interest for October's NWN

And the screenshots are starting to pour in! To expedite things further, I'll IM every designer nominated here, encouraging them to submit their fashion pics to me ASAP. (Another reason to nominate your favorites in this space.)

Mistress Midnight was very warm and friendly to me when I visited Midnight City! I also like Nicola Escher of http://www.spacethinkdream.com . She made tutorials which helped other designers get started

Just a quick reminder, no more than three general nominations, and two up-and-comer nominations per resident. (If you've already named more than the maximum, we'll let that slide, but no more excessive noms, please!)
Meanwhile, the first batch of submissions are up now, on the Southern shore of Zermatt. I will post screenshots as I receive them, in the order I receive them, at a max of five per day until the day of the show. (So I don't exhaust myself by piling on the entries.)
Oh, one more quick proviso: I just realized Zermatt's a PG sim, so please keep the fashions appropriately rated. (Yes, yes, I know models in Milan and Paris often go topless and so on, but them's the breaks.)
Right now, I'm planning to have the runway show next Tuesday, 7pm PDT. Pencil that in, and lemme check with the Lindens to see if that's feasible...

I would nomitate Fey. She has done so many outstanding clothes. I remember Tala and Wolf's wedding where he did the gowns and dresses. I will always cherish the flower girl dress she made for me. The outfits for the Regatta were made with so much thought to detail. And no one can forget when Oz was here And I love the bibs she makes for me!!!

Two of the great ones I've seen are: Mistress Midnight, and Nonna something-rather (I don't remember her last name, because you don't need it with a first name like that). Her stuff is stunning.
I'm anxiously awaiting the day when men get as much fashion concentration as the women. Perhaps that's a pipe dream, but we men would like some good clothes sometime. It took me at least 2 months just to find a decent pair of khaki pants.
