You can do just about anything you want in SL, as long it doesn't violate the TOS (terms of service) or go over your prim limit. :)

Well, you see Emelie, when one avatar loves another avatar very, very much...

(Sorry, couldn't resist.)

There's no rule or game option or anything for marrying someone. You do it more or less the same way you do in real life. You propose (or are proposed to), arrange a ceremony, exchange vows, and then settle down to live together.

And, like in real life, its not something you do just for fun, or on an impulse. Is there another player you are fond of, or have developed a romantic interest in? Do they feel the same way about you? If not, then why are you asking?

(And as for kissing, try typing /kiss in chat.)

Here's the thing, Emelie... Second Life isn't like The Sims -- Second Life isn't really a game. We aren't role-playing (well, most of us aren't). Second Life is more like a chat room with a 3-D interface :)

So... there are no make-believe "get married" or "have a baby" or "go to school" or "get a job" options built into SL.

Since I have just Wed in SL less then a week ago I figure i HAD to respond.

Yes, you can marry in SL. There's no interaction for it great thing is you do NOT need one :D

A little imagination & alot of organizing goes a long ways ;)

Also if you're interested. Jack Digerdoo made a video of our wedding & it may be viewed at:

Just a question :P

My SO is eager about joining the game, however is there any difference between just using my char to play or playing together? (e.g. is there any way to build together without giving the entire world permissions?)

I am considering this as if there is no way for us to build together on our "dream home" then there is no point that she create another char to play since we would need to purchase another computer (and a pretty high end one at that) just so she can come into the game.

Well, firstly, make sure she signs up on your recommendation so u get a $2000L referral bonus :p

(when u do this you will be given her calling card for free without even meeting up)

Secondly, right click the calling card in inventory and give her permissions to modify your stuff.

You *could* also make a group, but since we still dont have 2 person groups, you would need a trusted third party as a silent partner (or create yourself a 9.95 account to hold the group yourself, I guess)

You do still have to beware, though. Things still are extremely sticky when it comes to permissions and stuff.

E.g. I had a build on my own land. The lock was ticked, so I thought I was safe. One of the people who had edit permissions accidently took it into inventory (frantic armwaving can do that. lol). But whether she gives it or sells it back to me, I no longer have modify permissions on it, because of the lock that was supposed to keep it safe.

So be careful! Building together is a rewarding and fun experience... but it's possible to so break your stuff that neither of you can edit it any more!

So very very very excited about my pending nuptials to a one Eckhart Dillon - i could scream!! Eieeeee. Engaged just this weekend. Date is either Easter Sunday or the day before. Would so much love to speak to others who have been through it. Please let me know if you're married, engaged or just shacking up and wouldn't mind powwow'ing with me about it. Congratulations and Good luck to all that tread the path. Oh yeah, and to all that don't too.

P.S. Eckhart is the bomb!

LOL!

Hmm. Now, do I be flattered that you might consider marrying me? Or do I be miffed that you want to marry me for my 'stuff'?

But either way, babe, you blew it with the revelation that you plan to marry frequently! If I get married, I wanna stay married - sorry.

And anyway, you have far more stuff than me. Hmm. Second thoughts... name the date, honey! :D

Er yeah, drop by the house sometime in South West Mocha and chat. Have wedding pics in the store too (just a display) in case you're interested.

Sio.
