This thread has got me thinking: /3/da/10694/1.html

How do you feel about Lindens creating the content? I have sort of mixed emotions and not really sure. Its supposed to be "our world" and "our imagination", it seems a bit odd to me that Lindens feel the need to help us along.

The Oak Grove wild west town largely goes unused. I had mixed emotions about the road through the southern sims, but I accepted it. Now it seems to be mostly unused.

Now we have an urban development on the horizon, created by the Lindens. Will you buy into this or pass over it to create your own space? Im not really ragging on it, just finding it odd that Lindens feel the need to create content.

Thoughts?

:D

Offer inworld jobs to folks who simply have the building bug BAD, and see what they come up with. Like these new roads and bridges, or maybe they could help terraform new sims.

Lovely idea, by the way. I can't wait to see if the new city center works out, especially since if half the sims use all the prims, then the other half will be open space!!

Are "rural" sims next? *Imagines a sim 1024m on a side with tiny lodges and lighthouses, lost in the middle of truly giant mountains and rivers.*

Edit: The overexcitable elf has removed some of the extra "!'s".

Locki I agree - this seems odd and is a departure of it's "our world to create."

And by auctioning their content it seems the Lindens have become THE major real estate developer inWorld. This seems like an interference with the "free market" concept and, i wonder, won't this play into the hands of Land Baron = Power = Status = Lots of US $$.

Wondering.....

And offer inWorld jobs to people who have other bugs that make up SL's diversity, ie. artists, poets, organizers, story tellers, community workers, curators, shop keeps, teachers, etc.

:-)

Man, the Lindens created this world for you. Cut them some slack and let them have some fun with it too. :)

I don't think that Oak Grove was really anyone's dream build, so it has always languished, but a lot of people have talked about doing a new city. Several attempts have been made without being able to get it up and running, but I have some good feelings about this and I might just tier up and take part. If the basic layout is provided then the residents only have to come up with buildings, without hashing out the locations of roads, etc

I like the idea of a neon lit, tall building, noisy-city place. I wandered the streets of a shell of a metropolis in Active Worlds that had no soul, no life, but I thought back then the potential was exciting.

LL has provided this tremendous open format for all to play in and we're loving it. Why shouldn't they be allowed to play and enjoy it too?

Linden content in world is nothing new. Most places that have roads and infrastructure came from the Lindens. Boardman, Browm, Coney, Luna, Lusk Estates... And more.

Well, I loved Kissling when there were a bunch of tall buildings around, and it was fun, though a short drive, to drive around in. It's so empty now... If I can, I'm going to try to get a plot there.... Since Kissling seemed to have so few Prims to work with...

Anyone have an idea where this thing is going to be? I guess it'll be a new sim attached somewhere in the south/west??

i believe this was mentioned to be going up somewhere in the west...

and i agree.. the Lindens should be able to play too! not to mention, not only are they playing, but they're playing to produce an end product for us to play with.. if you wish to work with an empty plot, there are plenty of those sims out there.. :)

it's kind of like other players making builds for other players to use (apartments, etc)..

i'm excited to see how this new city-scape turns out! :)

I'll probably pass on this for a couple of reasons:

1. my own land usage is currently tied up, and I doubt I'll feel the need to tier up.

2. Prim allotment not *that* great. While it is double, my vision of what I'd like to contribute to a city is a 20-story highrise, and probably not feasable with the current prim allotment (unless I purchased a large amount of land).

3. Auctions.

I do, however, like the idea. The Lindens lay down the framework, and let us create the rest... this is inline with what a RL gov't would do. They provide the infrastructure, the developer/land owner provides the building(s).

I think that Oak Grove may not have worked out due to its particular theme. Time will tell us if this sort of project is simply doomed to fail or not.

I do like the canals, the infrastructure, but the blocks seem a bit small. Or my sense of scale is distorted, which I readily admit.

If everyone makes their avatars as short as possible, then the plots are huge! :P

Roads

I think having a road or two in a sim is a pretty cool idea, but there's one problem... I can't ever find a place nearby to rez my car/bike/go-cart/whatever.

I was going to drive around the empty city blocks and enjoy the low lag while it lasted, but ended up having to go to darkwood to rez the vehicle...

I realize that making the roadways "build" would result in lots of trash in the road, but there has to be a way to deal with this... We need "on ramps" with a 2 minute auto-delete or something along those lines.
