the last thread about the bush signs

the more i read the kilometric posts about the bush signs the more i am saddened by the mentality of the residents of second life, i feel like hearing one of my old neightbors pestering on the new house paintjob of a newly arrived resident.

Of course, i know its all about extortion, but seriously, itsnot to linden labs to solve your little everyday's problems, Linden lab isnt your mommie that will protect you from the outside world by putting you in an airtight bubble

some suggest ridiculous technical solutions, like visually muting persons, it makes me sad because then : why are you here if an offline game would be enough?

some other suggest to ignore and endure the problem while the "griefer" run out of money, its a way to do and probably the less idiotic i saw.

Some , and i probalby would nail down these if i could, want to play the angry customer, "customer is always right " bullshit. in a world that inflate at such rate, what is 10 or maybe 100 whiners treatening to tier down? I personally hate this egoistic behavior.

For the group that whine that Linden lab must use the elements of the TOS that allow them to get rid of such "problem" , you seems to have forgot something, thet TOS is written to protect Linden Labs agains you, the user, and secondary to make LInden Labs protect you.

Learn to endure a bit and this problem will vanish due to lack of funds, if you do not feed the monster , he will starve before eating you. But if this guy rally belive in his thing, he will probably fund it himserlf, and then... well he is totally in his right.

I've been perusing the various "Bush Sign" threads for a while and figured I would finaly chime in with a few points of my own;

I don't like all the "Impeach Bush" signs either, however I feel that people may be missing the point. Most everyone is assuming that the owner of said signs is commiting land extortion. Well if he is then I am curious as to what message he will use after Bush is no longer in office. He is using a message that is polticaly charged in order to get everyone riled up and convolute the issue. He can site "free speech" or some such other nonsense if he is forced to remove his signs (more on Free Speach to follow). Frankly I am hoping this is about land extortion and not the manifestation of some anti-Bush and "Kill All Americans!" style agenda, but I digress...

Anyways, from his point of view this is a brilliant tactic. He has created something that generates a lot of controversy, attracts lots of attention and gets people emtionaly charged enough to take action (usualy the action he is wanting us to take!). Could you imagine a better adevertising campaign for a product? By scripting some signs to dissappear when clicked he has seamingly made concessions to his opponents and slow the rate at which the issue boils over. Meanwhile this has given him more time to sit back while people buy up his land in order to get rid of the signs, engorging his coffers, empowering him to buy yet more land. This the cancer spreads. Add to that all the various threads that appear all over the forum. It mus be delightfuly ammusing to this person to suddenly be popular! Everyone may hate him, but he will now be remembered and has secured his place in SL history. Has it occured to anyone of you that he may be sititing in front of his computer reading your posts about him right now and (explicit detail of suggested acts left to your own imaginations). Some people practicaly FEED off of this sort of attention. PEOPLE, YOU HAVE BEEN PLAYED!

Another thing I have seen surface as this little drama has played out is the repeated harping on the rights of free speach. WHAT RIGHTS??? Where is this great internet constitution granting you the right to free speach? It does not exist! You do not have the right to free speach on the internet! Period. Cry about it all you want, that won't change a single thing. If the people who run the machines your website /game/ forums /whatever is hosted on decide to take your message down, it's down! This perceived right is something I see commonly in people. They take it for granted and assume they have their rights, real and perceived, where ever they go in the world physicaly or via cyberspace. Linden Labs controls SL, not you! Post all you want, money talks louder! If they start to see a drop in profitabilty in SL because of the actions of one user what do you think will happen?

Don't sugar coat the turth with your idealistic views of a cyber utopia.

Well, I for one don't even know the name of the IBG. I make no connection to the signs and a SL or RL person at all. None. As far as I am concerned this might as well be the work of a self replicating robotic virus. Nor is the message "controversial" or "thought provoking" to me - I'm already in 1000% agreement with the sentiment on the signs. If IBG is getting off on his notoriety, he's not getting any assistance from me.
