Since this system has been announced, odds are, it's going to go ahead as planned. But to judge from the reactions of some residents, feedback sessions are probably never going to be like this again.

So... Assuming it's just a one-time thing, how do we get the most people involved anyway?

They announce 5 locations and allow 12 people to join each one.

Change that....

They announce 20 locations, 15 of which are repeaters and the other 5 are the real thang. You get pot luck in getting to a real one... BUT, you will be able to listen in on a real one. If you end up liking one of the 12 people there based on how they behave in the talk, or from past experience with them, IM them with your questions. You get 60 + (15 * 30 or more) people involved!

Though this suggestion proposes one, I don't normally like representative systems. There's no need form them in Second Life. If there's an issue that Linden Lab needs to get the popular opinion on, the don't need to ask just a few people, "representative" or not.

We are all in the same game. We all have the same software. Just stick is ALL in one Linden-run group and propose a vote. Talk about your instant feedback. Work it like the common inventory folder works, available to all but not taking up one of the group slots.

Or heck, forget the group and just build this into Second Life directly. Add a menu item that brings up a window with current topics to vote on, with a comment slot (256 chars, Lindens have to read through all of it, after all - put the overflow int he forums) to go with it. Get the hot topics and feature proposals out of the forums and into the game where EVERYONE can see it!

Well the discussion with Robin is over.

I don't think anything was said that hasn't been said on the forums for the most part.

I was first to arrive. And I will say that involved some underhandedness on my part.

We didn't get a full quorum until after 10 minutes after the hour. People were arriving from the other groups that had filled up (or at least group #1 Philip's).

Four people were teleported in by other participants.

Robin said that the logs or summaries would be posted, so I'm not going to post the log at this time.

For a discussion 12 people was actually to many.

However, the fact it was limited and people were teleported in made the discussion non-representative of the general population.

His,

i agree. 12 people, while a small group, was still a lot to follow. although it allowed for several viewpoints to be represented. (i was over at Haney's group)

Tiger,

i agree with you as well. i think putting EVERYONE in THE SL group, run by Lindens, is a great idea. i'd go so far as to say a perfect one! it gives everybody a voice and allows for comments.. a perfect marriage of the forum style and the in-world discussions. i wish i had seen this before the discussion.. i would have mentioned it. but i'm sure we can let them know your idea.. :D

also, i wanted to say that i think our discussion produced some good ideas, as well as assuring Haney/LL of our support of a couple ideas that are already in motion.

we're headed for an exciting future!

Thanks, Cybin. I forgot to mention it myself. I'm full of ideas (most good, I'd hope, but I'm sure some are real stinkers) and I was a bit flustered at missing the first half due to being on my way home from work at the time. (Love and hugs to my RL wife, Cuddles Crossing, for saving me a place and a complete log of Haney's chat.)

I think I'll have to gather all my ideas and conclusions together soon. I'll probably have to stick it on a web page. It would be too big for a forum post...

I was in the small group with Phil Linden, despite my remote location and fairly slow connection. I thought the format was nice.

I also thought the previous method of a broadcast that could be relayed through setting the land URL was good.

Variety is a good thing. They don't have to do it the same way every time.

As for elevating some players to the status of "government," well, yuck, poo. All players are created equal. Let's keep it that way.
