I did read somewhere about a arguments workaround for this problem. But can't find it now. So if any other Mac users know a solution I'd love to hear it.
Open "Secondlife.app/Contents/Resources/arguments.txt" and add

--channel "I AM TEH RETRO"

to the first line. Use any nonsense you want in there.

Just DO NOT USE STREAMING MEDIA, no audio, no video, and don't follow links from clicked-on objects, because if anyone else gets your IP address they can 'sploit your ass.

Grit your teeth, and buy a cheap Windows XP PC clone, and use that for playing SL.
And discover that your cheap XP PC Clone's cheap video doesn't support Windlight!

Disc Image Failed To Mount
10-16-2008 05:24
Can anyone help with this problem??
When I try to OPEN the download the message "disk image failed to mount" comes up.
I've tried about 10 times to no avail.
I'm on a MBP.
This happened to me with the previous version and then "low and behold" it opened
all of it's own accord! (Again I'd tried for days to OPEN it)

Are you downloading a new copy each time? If not, download it again. Do other disk image files work?

Disc Image Failed To Mount

Yes,I've downloaded it 4 times!!!
I guess I'll just have to keep at it.

It's downloading O.K. to the desktop
so something is not working AFTER that.

I'll search Mac help:((

Do other disk image files work?.....don't think I've
encountered this before but I wouldn't know if something was a
"disk image file" or not;-)

There is light at the end of the tunnel :)

(Don't forget to add the non-redistributable libllkdu.dylib from an official viewer)

Let me know if it works for you.

A disk image is a .DMG file. Anything that ends in the .dmg extension. You've probably downloaded one in the past, so check in your downloads folder for something and see if it opens, too.

Off the top of my head, run Disk Utility and repair permissions. There's one problem that I can think of that causes this kind of problem that will fix.

Latest latest upgrade works!
10-17-2008 20:36
Hooray! Hooray! Hooray!

Just downloaded version 1-21-6-99587 released yesterday (16th Oct)
and it all works.......on BOTH my 'puters....a desktop and the MBP both
running Leopard.
Neither would mount the pevious version ( released on the 6th ).
Reason given was "codec overun"

The only difference was that today I downloaded it using Safari and the previous
attempts I used Firefox.

Go figure.

Anyway I'm happy now and will not be committing Hari Kari.

Thanks for your advice Empress

I'm paying close attention to this discussion because I'm planning an upgrade soon.... probably to a macbook or mb pro. I'll be using it to stream my shows, record music, and run SL among other things, lol.
