Is there a viewer that I can use so I don't crash?

I have a 2005 iMac, 2GB memory, 1.8 GHZ processor, run Tiger, have a GE Force NVidia 5200 graphics card, and I keep crashing! I have played in Restrained View, Emerald View, the LL download view, and CoolSL Viewer 1.19.05, and nothing really seems to work. Could someone tell me if they think it would be enough to install Leopard OS? I am thinking of getting a laptop just for gaming since it might be cheaper. Feedback appreciated!

The other option would be to get a used mini Mac with a better graphics card and use my iMac as a monitor. Has anyone tried that?

i did open a thread for a question that goes along with yours -

MAC MINI, G4, MC238... , 2.26 GHZ, 2GB and Secondlife?
/164/0e/352329/1.html

the G4 IMAC ( 2,4 GHz , 2 GB )
ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO
did work a year ago already with secondlife ( on 10.4.11 Leopard )

on a PC and winXP SP2 OS
even an onboard nvidia 6100 with ~256MB shared memory did the job,

so i guess the
NVIDIA GeForce Go9400M max. 256MB shared memory of 2 GB
within the MINI MAC
'should do the job' with
MacOS X 10.6 Snow Leopard , too ?

Let's wait for answers.

Here's one now:

...to your expectations. I can say that I find SL "good" on a low end Macbook Pro with the same video card, so it should be at least that "good". But my expectations are relatively low.

( video card:
nVidia GeForce 9400M with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory ) (= the 2 GB)

that sounds like an old iMac G5? I've seen quite a few of that model with the 5200s have weird issues... I think they had some defective parts.

You would do best to get rid of it, try to get some cash for it and get something much better. You cannot plug in a computer to it and use it as a monitor, if you got a Mac Mini you'd have to get a monitor as well.
