ETA is Friday noon SLT, or so Brent Linen says...
/164/c3/109181/1.html#post1056494 Well I for one am not really counting on it *shrug* Let's keep calm. We all know they are doing their best, losing sleep and all. I would get mad too if it was something like "power outage" but with codes that have been developed for over three years I would think anything can happen. I find this a good opportunity to rethink about my SL addiction. I should spend more time and money on stuff like books and eating out with friends, which I've been neglecting since I started SL. RL sucks but at least it won't shut me out ![]() |

SL addiction VS. RL responsibilities
05-26-2006 06:31
I'd say SL is more my primary hobby than an addiction..I'm a very busy guy in RL. I'm just ticked I'm locked out on my only two real days off from RL. It's only a game, I know. I would just like it to work as well as it did when I first joined the game. I made the leap and bought land and created biulds after assessing the game was stable enough for my Mac. Now, it seems to be getting worse and worse each update and after this recent update boo boo, I am unable to access what I'm paying for. I do have a right to be ticked. I am also reasonable and understand the SL environment is complex and never going to be perfect all the time. Neither is RL. Just more of the same in any dimension, I'm sure. Life goes on.

There are many of us waiting impatiently for this to be fixed. I, for one, have several businesses that I run in SL - Businesses that bring me a real cash income. Every day that I am locked out potentially costs me real US Dollars.
Later today, we hope. Much as I want to get back in-world, I'd rather have a stable client whe I go there. _____________________

yeah well, im trying to get my businesses to a point that they will make me RL money.
I guess im just lucky that i had all my rents paid and everything, i keep getting sales reports from my vendors, and my one "contract" is very understanding and will wait for his T-shirt design. Frankly, this COULD have happened when i was at a point a little further along, and it really would have hurt, rather than as is, where it sorta stings and makes me frustrated. |

05-26-2006 08:09
Being all of us of poor mac OS 10.3.9 ers are the only ones being locked out, loosing time, pleasure AND MONEY (Lindens and real money for most)!!! I suggest we be compensated for our loses. Just an idea I am throwing around, tell me what you all think.

Just an idea I am throwing around, tell me what you all think. This has been discussed elsewhere regarding lots more people then us experiencing down time. I'm pretty sure the TOS protects LL from this and honestly how much is it worth. If you calculated out how much it was worth for two days of no access, in terms of membership its about US$0.66. if you pay land tier its more depending on your situation. My business has continued to sell stuff so my profits have increased, but I can't get in to deal with some customer service issues. I'm sure the programmers are working hard to try and solve this problem. I don't see how threats of retaliation and demands for compensation improvese the situation any, that's just a negative aspect of the litigious society we live in raising its ugly head. Whenever we are inconvenienced, lawyers have got us thinking someone owes us something. It aint so boys and girls, life doesn't come with any guarantee's, and neither does Second Life. _____________________

Will this new mac update fix other mac problems?
05-26-2006 09:32
Just a note from the inside. On Tues., my SL life was great, clean clear and fast. Since the update, I can't get anywhere without serious lag. I mean I fly 3 seconds and wait for the system to catch up, fly back to where I overshot, even more lag. Sometimes it just freezes, other times I am stuck in perpetual flight through mountains into SL oblivion.
The recommended solution so far has been non-existent. I've been told to adjust sliders etc. I am now down to a completely ridiculous low-drain setting that barely renders anything before I am on top of it. It s like walking around in a fog and I still get lag. Its like a set of poorly designed glasses where things look OK when you are right on top of it but otherwise SOL On the status bars anytime I move I get drowned in red "loss of packet" madness. But according to Them, This is "fixed" and acceptable. If I want a better SL Experience -- get a newer computer!? My "old" computer worked just fine two days ago. No I am not on 10.3.9, I am on Tiger, but I hope that this occultation problem is the key for me as well. If not I may need to just quit SL cold turkey and lose the hundreds of dollars and lindens and land invested in a game that I thoroughly tested before I joined and now after they have my money -- they have pulled the rug out from underneath me. Oh yea, I can sign in and experience life -- but the quality of life is crippling. I am so frustrated I could scream. I hope that the other mac issues are solved with this update. |

Ive poured hundreds of dollars into SL, and now they pull the rug out from under us? F^>K THIS! two days ago i was walking around, talking to friends, lagging only slightly if at all, and now i fear even if they do fix what they "broke", they're explanation sounds too akin to a six year old breaking a vase for my liking, i wont be able to walk two steps without a freeze forcing me to remove the battery from my powerbook just to get back to my desktop! i've made some great friends and have no other way to contact them, why cant they just leave things alone...

Did you actually read the TOS?
05-26-2006 10:16
Have any of you actually read the TOS? the one place where Linden Labs grants the user any real protection is for downtime. I'm willing to bet you'll get nowhere trying to be compensated for lost business; but the TOS specifically states that you will be credited for downtime against land maintenence fees.
At least that should take some of the sting out of it. My guess is, everybody who's moaning like a junkie right now remember how bitchy you were a few days down the road when its up and working smoothly again. I for one am encouraged by what I'm seeing thats exhibiting issues in the update; it shows me they've been touching things I've been concerned about. Wont speculate further on that for now. BTW, this update works FANTASTICALLY on the wife and kids e-machine with on-board wannabe graphics system... Skalligrim//Fletch |

Woop de do!

I'm sooooooo glad it's working for you -- you speak with the patience of somebody who obviously has access as normal.
Meanwhile, I will go back to my de-tox anger management fit and sit on my SL deck and look at the fog -- where there once was a view and try not to move too much. Or maybe I'll just take a snapshot and load it as a screen-saver and pretend all is well and contemplate the phantom pain of the amputated wings I used to have and the freedom that I've lost. ::Reveling in melodramatic projected pain:: I'm trying to have a sense of humor -- really. ![]() |

Skalligrim//Fletch Frankly... a day later, with a calmer head, if they gave me a couple bucks off my land fees and premium fees, id be happy. The gesture would be enough. Its not really about getting over, from where I stand. Brent Linden's slightly morbid feeling humor isnt helping me stay angry either! |

I'll tell you, Drake, until I heard the Linux client also had serious problems, I was seriously considering attempting to install it under Darwin...

Second Life 1.10.0.34 is now available for download. Please note that if you are on Mac OS X 10.3.9 you must download this client at http://secondlife.com/download ... the auto updater will probably not work. Please see this thread for more information.

I'll tell you, Drake, until I heard the Linux client also had serious problems, I was seriously considering attempting to install it under Darwin... The Linux version is only for Intel/AMD 32-bit chips (x86), so you'd have to have a Intel Mac... and then you'd ether have to attempt to install Gentoo or wait for Ubuntu's Dapper Drake release to hit gold. There's no PowerPC (ppc) version yet. I can run it on my 64-bit AMD (amd64) easily (there's a 32-bit emulation layer for binaries, which runs very good). The problems w/the Linux client are the same with the Mac client: Occulusion problems. We've posted bug reports on the forums because we crash on login. |

Second Life 1.10.0.32 (or as I like to call it, the "Give us Brent's head on a platter" version). LoL! Brent, you made my day with that self-effacing comment! Thanks again for getting 1.10.0.34 to us, so we can get in again! _____________________
