So... who is locked out by SL 1.10?

Anyone else want to post an absence notice here, while we wait for LL to rescue us?

I am locked out of Second Life. So is anyone else on Mac OS 10.3.9.

Mac OS X 10.4.x is fine, but 10.3.9 is dead in the water.

I still don't know, after the 10.3.9 issue is fixed (whenever LL gets around to that), weather or not my old Mac Mini will even be capable of running SL any more, because of all the graphics-heavy 'improvements'. Some of the touted changes might actually make SL run better for me. But I can't get on to see.

And no, I can't pay over $100 USD to get an OS upgrade, and/or a better video card, and/or a better computer. And I won't use a pirated OS upgrade.

So, until Linden Labs fixes their buggy Mac release, this fox is locked in her den, and can't come out to play.

Solitare, anyone?

im locked out too...buuu....and same situation i cant afford to pay a better computer or upgrade my OS...i was worried with all the 'new improvements' that were expected for this release, since im been running SL in the lowest of the lowest settings and still suffer lag, crashes and the like, but i seriously never thought i was not going to be able to run SL AT ALL. I only can hope they fix the problem soon before my rents go due and i lose my hard earned vendors spots.

good luck 10.3.9 users :/

I made a point of updating my mall rentals before the update... just in case.

Maybe it would have beena good idea to have tried out the preview builds and reported this bug before they hit final release?

It wasn't broken in preview, fwiw. This is not encouraging:

I have limited SL time these days and wanted to go in tonight to say hi to friends but no. Maybe Friday. pfft.

Honestly? I'm scared to death of the preview grid.

My circa late 2004 Mac Mini is so close to the bottom of what can even barely manage to run SL, that I fear every new release will drop me right off the bottom of the functional hardware list. All those nifty new features like ripple water and local lighting? I don't dare turn them on! They will drag me to a standstill, even in the tested, released versions. So how am I going to fare in the average half-tested beta release? Poorly, at best.

LL doesn't care about people with computers as poor as mine. My 2004 Mac Mini is already below their 'acceptable' threshold, and pretty much at the bottom of the 'Required' minimums.

Right now, I'm just praying they don't leave me behind before I can find some way to afford to replace my aging system. Today, I just can't do it. The Mac Mini's video card can't be upgraded, so it's an entire system replacement that I'm facing. And I can't afford to but a new computer. Not even a cheapo Windows PC clone with a halfway decent video card.

This is why more people need to test the preview grid. It would probably have been fixed. I'm not trying to stir up anything, just stating a little fact. :)

It was broken in a last-minute fix, according to LL, so it wouldn't have helped.

I'm shut out too. :(

Was scared teh same way, Ceera. I don't run Mac, but my puter is going on 7 years old. heh.

I'm not a tech-head, but if you were able to run in 1.9 (even if slow) I'm thinking you should be able to be fine here. I have everything set where I did before and things actually load faster. Though the load on bandwidth is higher (though this may be as the grid stabilises and people flood back in).

I did have a panic moment before a few of teh helpers for tech-dumb such as me came out to help me and show me I did not, indeed, have the right driver. If you've gotten the right updated driver we should see you back in SL as soon as the bleary eyed bug-techs fix this goof.

FYI, SL auto-sets your preferences when you first log in. Apparently the program that decieds what your system can handle is retarded as it set all mine to max LOL

So if you lock up on first login, don't panic. Load again and set preference back to whre you know they work (or lower to be safe). This only auto-sets you once.

~Jessy

P.S. If a Linden reads this, lightly smack the person who set that auto-set. Was a real pain in the ass. lol

I'm locked out too, i cant afford a new OS or computer, and even if i do get "let in" will i even be able to move with all these graphics improvements they made? this is a classic case of fixing something thats not broken, will the lindens ever come to there senses and stop making these needless changes?... i doubt it

24 hours later, SL says they have fixed the problem but they are still withholding the viewer up date.

Essentially they are saying, "We know everyone using Mac OS 10.3.9 is locked out of SL, we have fixed the problem, but are witholding the repaired viewer for our own convenience. Touch nookies."

This is really starting to rub.

Locked out and Lowdown
05-25-2006 18:56
:( Just paid for an expensive merchant parcel in ElvenMyst, too!

I'm excited about the occlusion settings they just hit on. I could be in an area like Dublin and still lag hard because my poor little machine was still drawing the prims i couldn't see.

I''m hoping SL doesn't leave us behind merely because we're still running Panther.
