From: MaryLee Marshall Everone opposed to this proposition who has friends who voted for it, please discuss the matter with your friends and ask them to reconsider.
It's so easy to avoid discussing unpleasant things like this bill but given it's unmerited degree of success it is important to stop for a while and work against it. Why is it "unpleasant"? Are you offended by the ideas presented in the vote? Your entire post makes no sense. Why does everyone feel so threatened by free speech?

From: Tasty Flan Why does everyone feel so threatened by free speech? Because it implies responsibility. And drama does not.

Maybe I'm confused, but don't we already have free speech in SL? Free speech is not about being able to say whatever you want where ever you feel, everyone else be damned. There are all sorts of other laws that prevent jackassery. If I log into SL and have an IM session with my friend, we can talk about whatever it is we want. But if I go into a public setting and starting spouting off hate speech, or proclaiming the virtues of my testicles, or anything of that nature, there is a good chance someone will take offense and I will be reported for violating certain laws set forth in SL. The same as in RL, I cannot stand out in public and say whatever I wish. Just because I can say what I want doesn't mean everyone else HAS to hear it. I also don't see what responsibility has to do with anything related to free speech. If we had free speech without restriction, you would never be held responsible for anything.

From: CrystalShard Foo .. I dont see this as "unpleasent" as much as simply "pointless".
This is a communication platform hosted on a commercial service. There are no rights to speak of beyond basic customer/company relations. What we are getting here is a service, plain and simple.
This would pretty much be the same thing if this was NOT a commercial service, ran on volunteer servers - say, proposing "The IRC user bill of rights for EFNet" will pretty much get you either laughed at or kicked off the network.
I really do not see a reason to take this suggestion seriously, at all. 100% Agree. -Adam
