Some of us are planning an Iraq War sim.
It will be a prize incentive driven build contest,
with judged and people's choice awards.
It is not themed overall for or against the war, however
it is thought that most submissions will be against the war.
While the rhetoric of war usually bears
an overarching humanitarian cause, the enemy
must be dehumanized, demonized, and hated enough
for soldiers to be motivated to kill, and for the murderous
grind and expense of the war machine to be accepted by the public.
Indeed my conceptualist imagines a grafitti wall of love vs the
grafitti wall of hate as a most basic and troublesome idea.
It could test the limits on hate speech.
imho hate, flushed into the open, can be addressed,
and hate statements would bear the imprint of their avatar.
Would it lead to dialog or hostility? Both are likely.
I also see the hate wall (tower of hate?) as a place for people to collect the
ideas that poison our planet (and SL) and ceremoniously purge them,
to sacrifice them for peace. I am reminded of a quote put
on a public sculpture by an artist: "It was better before they came."
This ambiguous statement provokes the reader, and can
reveal their race/national prejudices.
I also imagine an an interactive fiction sim about
extraordinary rendition, Haditha, Abu Ghraib, or a
Scales of Injustice build illustrating the human cost of militarism.
Perhaps the online lifers (professional military) setup a military
recruiting sim. There already appear to be some private security
and "public" police entrepreneurs and groups.
Many may prefer all fantasy life, but SL cannot deny RL.
And if it bleeds, it leads.
