"Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents."
This simple sentance on the website should be the definition of this community, but it isnt, its a lie that pulls many people into the community.
If this statement was real, griefing would be allowed, stealing from vendors would be allowed, harrasment would be allowed, the Lindens would only have to handle customer support and serious issues.
Picture this, you are in a Sandbox when a griefer comes towards you, firing missiles.
You try to run away, you call a Police Department someone has set up, they come and trap the griefer and take him away in a Police Vechile.....
If the griefer persists a courtcase ensues which the Jury and Judge are normal users, and if they decide the griefer should be banned they contact Linden Labs who then handle the situation....
That would be a world entirely owned by its residents.
I am not saying this is how things should be run, but I believe that the statement at the top of this thread should be reworded to "Second Life is a 3-D virtual world built entirely by its residents.", what do you, my fellow users, think?

I believe the idea is we own what we build.
Our businesses are run by us, etc. Look at your town.. people go about life pretty much as they wish provided it does not go beyond the law. When it does, police are involved. I see LL like that. I have very little interaction with LL unless they are needed. Otherwise I go about my business and make my own world. Maybe that is just my experience. Enjoy that acid.  _____________________

no its different, in sl the ultimate ruler and all seeing eye is Linden labs
we don't have this in rl, you can't be banned in RL an equivalent in sl would mean nobody can ever be banned and LL police nothing, like a spectating god , and let us to our fate _____________________

SL ban does exactly the same thing. Takes the banned one out of society for a season to think on thier crime and hopefuly not repeat it. Of course the SL banned one can freely move about the real world but that is not really the point hehe. _____________________
