I need to go skin shopping - any suggestions?

Couldbe needs a decent skin, she's still wearing a freebie she picked up when she first came inworld. Up until this adult content stuff kicked off it never mattered as she never went anywhere nor had any friends.

Now she goes to office hours and knows people and she looks really shabby, so it's time to get her a decent skin.

I went skin shopping around 12 months back and bought a couple that looked ok in the demo but when i bought the real ones it put me right off and I stashed them away quick smart. It seems a lot of skin designers expect you to use facelights and adjust your preferences to make their skin look acceptable. I find this hard to believe because it seems rather delusional - you might look good to yourself but everyone else sees tatty.

anyway.. I need some pointing in the right direction. This is what couldbe looks like now (with a little help from photoshop to lighten and even the skin tone) and I'm really looking for a good skin that has the same kind of makeup i.e. night time but not with the stereotypical hooker eyeshadow that still seems to be so popular in here - nor the rather obvious white stripe under the eyes! I mean, do I look like Adam Ant???? (don't answer that).

I really like Redgraves skins... they have some shadows in Full day light but realtively few... I would say try a bunch of demos every where. I will send you a few names when I log in tonight too

I must have one of each creators skins my now. I tend to like Allessandra (spelling) and Laqroki (again spelling, sorry). One of the things I have had a hard time finding are skins with tastefully done blue eye shadow. The Allesandra have some 1024 skins that I like a lot. I have no idea if the 1024 makes much difference, but the skins are nice. I have found a few with the right blue eye shadow, but the skin is either too bright, or too dark. I probably shop around for skin more than any item in SL, and by now, I'm sure I have at least 25 or more. The lines under the eyes always bother me, and some skin makers seem to think that white lines on the skin create some kind of highlight, but I don't like it. I kind of like the ones by Realism ( think that's it, I can check to make sure), but these are rather punkish looking for me.

I have this skin and love the face, but to be honest I am not into the sexxies much so haven't inspected the body details closely, so you will have to make your own judgment. This skin is really inexpensive, esp if you buy just a single makeup option as I did on Xstreet.

I really like the mela's skins. I bought a pack in the vienna skintone when I did my big makeover in spring '08 and I'm still liking them a lot. I like them much better with my current shape than many other more expensive skins I demoed.

I had a look at them and can see what you mean, they do look pretty and I boggled at the price!

I'm going to give them a try for general running around in but what I'm looking for is something with a little more definition I think. I use the lovely Couldbe when I take pics for my ads and I've noticed sometimes she looks a little more cartoonish than I'd like.

I know, I'm asking for the moon and the stars.

I'm going to spend some quality time this weekend slogging around the grid. So I've got Bhakta's suggestions on my list and will just have to slog through search I suppose.

I'll keep an eye out for tasteful blue eyeshadow Bhakta and drop you a note if I find any.

If you are looking to do your own skins go for Eloh Eliot Skins, they are free full perm textures you can work with in photoshop/gimp etc.

Eloh's skins are at the Gnubie shop on the top floor, front.

The Splendor skins are also free and moddable, but to find them you have to look into Sezmra Svarog's picks, teleport to the sim, and then fly to the red beacon. The skins are on displays near a wishing well.

I like Coquette, Belleza, and Laqroki.

By the way, some of the skins you already bought (the ones you hid away) might look crappy because your shape doesn't suit them. Try them with some other shapes and see.
