Hey, what are the next and previous tab keystrokes?

I've only read what they are ten thousand times in the last few days, maybe reading it one more time will finally make it sink in.

If you're talking about in IMs, it's 'ctrl + [' and 'ctrl + ]'.

The sarcasm symbol at the end of my post, plus the comment about having read it ten thousand times in the last few days, should, in my view, tip people off to the fact that I was not actually in need of or desirous of seeing this information again.

This information appears in tooltips over and over again, tooltips that I can't turn off.

When the cursor lingers over the Places tab in the search dialog, for example, a tooltip appear that says "Places" on one line and below that it says "Ctrl-[ for previous tab" and below that it says "Ctrl-] for next tab".

The part that says "Places" adds little of explanatory value to a tab that already has the word "Places" on it. Maybe it helps you. It doesn't help me.

As for the lines that say "Ctrl-[ for previous tab" and "Ctrl-] for next tab" - if I haven't picked up on that by now, I'm not ever going to, so I'd like to be able to make that go away forever.

A list of keystroke shortcuts in the F1 help would be quite sufficient. No need to hit me in the head over and over with the fantastic virtue of the next and previous tab keystrokes.

The guy that implemented the next and previous tab feature and or the creator of tooltips must think that being able to move from tab to tab by pressing Ctrl [ and Ctrl ] is the most impressive and most important piece of programming that ever has and ever will be done, the ultimate pinnacle of human achievement, a thing so wonderful that choirs of angels should sing songs of praise to the heavens every time your cursor lingers for the millionth time over a tab or a button in the user interface.

They are wrong.

I've never seen any tooltips like that (now I probably won't be able to not see them :p).

Ctrl-[ or Ctrl-] is an impossible combination to hit on many European keyboards as it is. It takes holding down Ctrl+Alt just to get [ so I'd love to hear a Linden explain how I'm supposed to hit that shortcut.

oh tool tips? you can change the delay time they they wont show for a while
Open Client menu (if not there Shift-Ctrl-Atl-D)
Then the "Debug Setting" in the Client menu
Look for "ToolTipDelay" in the Drop down.
Adjust to your preference like 36000 would be 10 hours :) <-- no sarcasm here

I know about the tooltips delay in the debug settings, and commented on one of the problems with that in this post where I stated "You can adjust the tooltip delay in debug settings, but that affects the LSL help.",
and in this post too where I said "The client debug settings has an option for tooltip delay, which can be used to keep the tooltips from being too annoying, but if you use that then you lose your scripting tooltips." and I also described how to eliminate static tooltips such as the ones for the buttons at the bottom in this post here.

I'm looking for a well thought out system that allows users to conveniently set their preferences, with a granularity such that one can, among other things, turn off the tooltips in specific dialog boxes, toolbars, etc., and have the preferences persist through the complete uninstallations that some Linden programmers say are useful in preventing problems with new versions of the software.

If I haven't figured out by now that the chat button lets me "Talk to other people" then I probably don't have much to say to other people that they would listen to for very long.

It's always with the hair ain't it?

Sigh, the page that featured me as the worst hair in SL is gone now.

Complaints about my hair should be directed to the maker, Robin Sojourner. :p
