Just curious. I'm always amazed when I run into people who've bought the BS from the White House. If someone disses the president it doesn't have anything to do with the military. |

Well bully for him.
I'm challenging authority, all right. I'm challenging the Lindens' authority that is letting him keep this up. What would I do without him to teach me and the other children all these good lessons. coco _____________________

is it just me or is it obvious this guy has passive-aggressive issues? Lizbeth, great comment, LOL. I'm not trying to downplay what you said, I just love to think of passive-aggression. "I'm gonna beat you down, heathern.....that is if you don't mind" - for some reason I always have thoughts like that when I think of passive-aggressive behavior. Sorry for the silly comment, just in a silly mood today. |

Free Speech is one thing
01-11-2006 09:40
It is his right to post signs as it is the Republican party's right to put out wave upon wave of drivel onto the airwaves, where I would remind you they have a massive and permanent advantage in promoting their vile sub-intellectual nonsense. SL has free speech, I believe in it. I can turn off the radio and put in a cd or lissen to my Ipod. The problem with the signs is they are there and have to be viewed. They disturb my WA! I also have the right not to hear this "free speech". This "free speech" is not the right to force yourself on others! |

The problem with "free speech" and other things deemed "free" by the public....
Free Speech sometimes feels like two squirrels running up a tree trying to beat eachother to the top. Except there is no top! I support all forms of free speech. I just don't like how it means thoes doing the free speeching have to compete for listening rights from all of us.... It's the competition strategies that seem invasive and insulting. Not the conent of the speech. I put up prims in front of his signs so i wouldn't have to view them from my land. He moves his signs accordingly every so often. So i move my prims accordingly. It'll probably go on like this for a while. It's kinda like chosing to turn off the radio with the radio turning itself back on every 24 hrs. ![]() ~Lefty |

Turned off means OFF!
01-11-2006 13:12
When I turn off the radio or TV, the stupid thing stays OFF! Do not have to keep performing the same function again and again. When people exercise their free speech, I tell them that are nice but be quiet now. You are not influencing me; in fact your constant irritating BLATHER has the opposite effect.
If I owned a radio that "could not" be turned off, would use physical force to make it go into the inactive mode just before sending it off with the trash! |

Just my few prims worth...
01-11-2006 18:31
I had a similar problem with signage popping up in land next to my store... long story shortened... the guy who owned that land couldn't find a way to get the price he wanted, offered it to me (and I didn't need it) so decided to sell it as 'prim land'. Tiny plots sprouted up with all sorts of things... signs mostly... then a vendor that the owner has not quieted down (obviously unable to connect the message and landmark I sent to him after asking him to do so)... then a skybox... then an adult club sign...
My shops *are* eyesores, but I consider them to be both artistic and worth any builder's time and effort to look at and examine. So, what do I do? I spend much time and effort, of which I have little left these days, getting that shop up and running. I refuse to move... my money investment is small but my time investment is large and that matters to me. Then the thought ocurred to me... My futzy big prim! The poor thing had been sitting in my prim library for months after discovery, a nice thing to show, but totally useless... until now... I really, really didn't like having an adult club sign next to my artistic and abstract designs. But a futzy big prim, or in this case a few of them, totally cuts off the view in that direction. The scripts I put in are all client-side and the texture on my side is a pleasant swirling gold. I consider the swirling alpha spirals to be eye catching on the opposite side and heavily distracting from even the adult signage. The prims are phantom, of course, so as not to impede flight... and anyone coming in from *the other side* can see my shop behind the big prims. I get an end to an eyesore... and the other side? 'Fences make good neighbors' It is *artwork*. It pleases my eye, at least and does not advertise, espouse political views or otherwise do anything except look pleasant. And anyone wanting higher signs gets into the cloudbank... and will be next to the skybox. Time spent: 30 minutes Prims used: 8 Cutting off an eyesore: PRICELESS Enjoy! -Diana _____________________

Noob's view of the Impeach Bush signs
01-12-2006 02:56
I'm new to SL and I'm not American, so I thought I'd add my comment to the mix which probably isn't so tainted by the Red-vs-Blue war raging amongst Americans.
I must say when I first saw the "Impeach Bush" signs, I was really blown away. I think its fantastic. Regardless of your opinion of the actual message, it really highlights one of the things that I love most about SL so far - the convergence of our real and virtual lives. Its when these two worlds come together that things get really interesting. We all have real lives in addition to SL, and in this virtual world which is so ideal for communication I think it would be a great disservice to immediately call for the restriction of people's rights in SL, simply because you disgree with how their comments reflect on RL. The United States used to believe in the individual's rights and although that seems to be waning recently, I'm hopeful that reason will return soon. In the meantime, wouldn't it be great to know that there is still one place where your rights are protected - even if it was a virtual place? |

How about the right not to be harassed by others? I hear the person’s argument and reject it! Seeing his argument is not going to change my mind now or in the future!

I must say when I first saw the "Impeach Bush" signs, I was really blown away. I think its fantastic. I thought that too, until I looked closer. One person owns all the signs. He puts them in places to annoy people. He sets the land for sale at a vastly inflated price so people will buy back their views. As far as I can tell it's griefing for money masquarading behind the shield of free speech. |

Chrischun,
There is a certain irony to you starting this thread, given the fact that we have you to thank for these crappy signs: ![]() _____________________

Chrischun, There is a certain irony to you starting this thread, given the fact that we have you to thank for these crappy signs: ![]() Yes irony. Because I too use 16m^2 plots for advertising that currently have a couple of signs in rotation that point out the pure stupidity of the cause that the IBG hides behind? Or not because I don't ever sell my land, do my best to honor movement request, limit them to one 16m^2 per sim with the total number in existance not to exceed more than 25% of the sims that make up the mainland grid sim total? |

How about the right not to be harassed by others? I hear the person’s argument and reject it! Seeing his argument is not going to change my mind now or in the future! How about the right to live peacefully? well, let's get into rights a little since it seems to be core in this debate. No, these are not our rights. Not really. Technically, we don't have the right to not be harassed. We have the right to do our best to avoid being harassed. That's different. That's Free Speach. We do our best by creating laws (i.e. tools) for ourselves. Tools take time to make and make well. Just as well: We don't have the right to live peacefully. We simply have the right to try. In America we use the word persue. That kinda illustrates a struggle not a state of peace. That being said: if blue signs are our biggest gripe lately, we're going pretty F***ing good here in the metaverse. We've come a long long way since DOS and the IIgs ![]() ~Lefty |
