Worst SL misconception: "I can't do it."
You can do anything, kids. All you have to do is spend the time to learn. I know so much more now than I did when I first came to SL. I can make things I only dreamed of back then. Approach skill building with enough tenacity and you can learn anything you want.
Second worst SL misconception: "Because I won't bother to do it, someone should do it for me. And it should be free."
Conversely, if you can't be bothered to get off your ass, don't bitch when you have to pay for something that you like. Don't bitch if you don't get the money to buy it for free. The people who make amazing things in SL didn't learn overnight, nor did they make their stuff perfectly in half an hour. Making compelling stuff in SL is hard. People deserve to be rewarded by a robust market for their dedication.

#1 - If someone tells you her (his) age, they're always being sincere
#2 - If you lie about your age, noone will ever find out

Reverse SL Golden Rule #1: Everyone online represents their true gender truthfully. Reverse SL Golden Rule #2: Every person you meet is genuinely a new person, with no agendas or previous SL experience. Lf

- because lots of others in SL steal real world trademarks, it is acceptable for me to do so (A: morality has nothing to do with what others do)
Actaully you know what? Because of the MINOR amounts of money inovled in avatar and art creation and sales , I think those coperations actually in most cases (Except Disney becuase they are just like that), will turn a blind eye becuase its free advertising..
Heck MARVEL turns a blind eye in the real world for similar reasons. they want people that can draw Marvel chaacters to hire if they need, them, and its advertising. So long as the moeny's small potatoes.

1. There is no monopolisation. 2. Profiteering does not exist. 3. Second Life has an economy 4. Second Life is not a game.

misconceptions: "If anyone does it (irregardless if it's right or not), then I can do it too.""I can do the Lindens' job and do it better.""I speak in l337 and therefore Linden Lab should listen and heed to what I say.""Everything should be cheap.""Everything should be expensive.""SL is a game.""SL is not a game." "Rich players should give me money.""LL should give me money.""SL is an interactive chatroom.""Playing in SL is my right, and not a privilege.""SL is the next get rich quick scheme."

From: Pratyeka Muromachi Misconceptions: - houses have to look "real". - avatars have to look "real". - there is a need for an economy. - money is the prime incentive for creating good content. Bravo. And as is often the case, no one acknowledged the most meaningful post in this thread. Well, I did. So here it is again: From: Pratyeka Muromachi Misconceptions: - houses have to look "real". - avatars have to look "real". - there is a need for an economy. - money is the prime incentive for creating good content.

Reverse SL Golden Rule #2: Every person you meet is genuinely a new person, with no agendas or previous SL experience. Lf[/QUOTE] This is very very true as I am experiencing first hand right now. Of course I have no proof but it's very obvious that a person I met the other day is not a newbie to sl as much as they are trying to portray that they are.

I have only been on sl for just about two weeks. I don't know if this is a general common misconception but it's happen to me 3 times already so it's common *for me* Asking someone (especially a newbie) if they would like to go somewhere to chat means it's okay to teleport them to a place with streaming porn video's all over the walls without warning
