I'll mention some things I've noticed, and others have also posted elsewhere...

Disable the "Windows" key on the Microsoft OSes, if the OS will let the client app do such a thing. There are lots of people I wouldn't want trying to screw with their registry as a way to avoid this...

Remove the "Release Land" button in the About Land dialog!! That things stares balefully at me every time I bring up the dialog, and I know it's just a matter of time before I accidentally lose my house and home.

How would one access the Forum in-world? I was wondering how this might be accomplished since it seems there's as much activity here as in-world, and Im having a difficult time keeping up. ;^)

I think we need more weird, funky bugs. I dunno about everyone else, but I find the things that go wrong to be the most entertaining. There's nothing quite like teleporting with a friend, and somewhere between start and destination, your friend has picked up a pair of breasts. :D

in this order:

allow group allocation contributions to offset equivalent monthly estate fees

llhyperlink() to open a local web browser and load a page

explain that we will not implement integrated voice chat

integrate havoc 2

tar and publish a distribution of the server(s) sofware AS IS

Oh, I have so many. What's good stands to get better :)

I've championed a whole list of features in the past. Some of them are here:

http://torley.blog-city.com/read/830569.htm

I really have to reiterate how handy a "group party travel" mode would be for friends going to various places, especially if one is AFK momentarily but still wants to come along on the trip. It coordinates and synchronizes a merry band of avatars nicely.

My thread on that, with more of an explanation, is here:

/13/da/25090/1.html

For racing and other fast vehicular travel, a better sort of "preload" mode would work wonders. Not sure how exactly it'd be implemented, but basically, it comes down to loading what's in the distance faster so you aren't bogged down when travelling. Maybe a way to specify a racetrack as "non-dynamic" after it's finished so it's cached solidly and doesn't require to be streamed live each time. Or something.

And, at the behest of Cat o' Nine Tails ;) (aka C-Omega), fully bidirectional XML-RPC. 'Nuff said. :D

Commercial, Entertainment, and Residential zoning of sims. One of the major problems in this game is ppl trying to build a nice home and somebody planting a club or megamall in their backyard.

Regarding zoning, it seems like this is something we may be able to do ourselves. Seems like it should be possible to form a group and go in on a whole sim - not a private island, just a group sim with an agreement/charter over how it should be developed. The sim doesn't have to be group owned per se -- I admit I know little about group mechanics in SL -- could be each of eight members gets a randomly assigned 1/8th part of the sim for outright ownership, with the proviso that they adhere to the guidelines. Resale to third parties would be contingent on buyer adhering, etc.

I saw some comments in some land forsale/wanted postings somewhere that made me think this may have been done in the past, perhaps with less formal structure.

The only thing I'd look for from LL for this would be a little support in facilitating a group purchase of a sim for this purpose. But only because, while a couple whole sims have auctioned during my month here, it's not clear that they do so on a regular basis. Might just be a trigger to release a couple whole sims to auction, and your group is left to deal with the free market forces.

My personal wishlist of changes to SL would be quite different, but if I were in LL's shoes I'd do these two things for strategic reasons:
  1. I'd XML'ify the whole UI, because that would dispense with a whole raft of Feature Suggestions since so much could be modified by people themselves or (more often) by sites dedicated to crafting better UIs. Aka. "Reduce workload #1".
  1. I'd do what Philip hinted was possible at the last Town Hall, and that is to get new dev staffers to manage open sourcing the more separate elements of SL, like the LSL compiler, offline object and animation previewers, inter-object communications layer (with or without XML-RPC), etc. Aka. "Reduce workload #2".

Then I'd focus my resources on the still-remaining mountainloads of work. :)

First of all, by NO means think I am comparing SL to Sim City, they are worlds apart, but what we do see in Sim City, is that effective zoning can be beneficial to all types of zones, I think that some sort of zoning would prove out to be quite beneficial, IN THE PUBLIC SIMS. If you spend the $ to purchase your own island, it IS an island, and you should be allowed to micro manage it as you see fit.

Zoning is pretty much a necessity right now, simply because people are destroying each other's environments, treading on each other's toes, and generally being a nuisance to each other. This all stems from land acreage being so costly that only the wealthy can afford to put any distance between themselves and their neighbours.

This will change in due course, when the grid of zones gets virtualized once the server architecture becomes dynamic, which it has to do in order to be able to scale up events.

Land acreage will then become extremely cheap, since its price will then reflect only disk storage costs, and not CPU and network costs like at present (ie. you'll buy prims separately for building).

In that situation, zoning would no longer be necessary because today's 512 m^2 plot could be set in a square mile of unprimmed countryside, and these large estates could themselves be isolated within surrounding Linden land.

But for now, zoning new land is the only way of preventing discomfort and disruption in the community.

1) larger prims. I want to be able to build large, circular buildings, by using a single cyllinder.

2) LIGHT for body textures. I want my kewl, glowy TRON skin, dernit.

3) "invisible" mode for body parts. It would be nice to be able to build non-humanoid sims, without needing "invisoprims."

4) streaming music URL on objects, rather than just on land. Portable radio!
