There should be an server-enforced build height limit near telehubs.

There should be an server-enforced build height limit near telehubs. Seriously. The server should make it impossible to build any building taller than 20-30m, maybe even smaller. Why? Because my #1 aggravation of Second Life is teleporting somewhere then trying to fly to my destination. And hitting a big building that hasn't loaded yet. And then trying to get around it only to find that when I flew into it when it was invisible I happened to fly into the only window in the ugly thing. Then I have to wait 1-2 minutes for the rest of the building to load. Many times I find it quicker to teleport home and then try again.
Just an annoyance. And is it me or are most telehubs some of the ugliest places in the game?

First, this should be in feature suggestion forum.
Second, I agree it's a problem, but I always favor technological hard-coded solutions over hard-to-enforce regulations. In this case, a better solution may be having telehubs 50m high? Or have Linden land around and from telehubs to major roadways? Or putting telehubs in corners of sims?

another solution is to do away with the telehubs and just let us teleport directly to a location using either the map or landmarks.
nobody will ever convince me that this is a bad idea, or conversely, that having telehubs is a good one.

I'm for ditching telehubs. Let what's developed IN a sim determine land value, not its proximity to an outdated method of transportation.

On that line of thought, I'd like to see charging money for telehubs, and let people put them where they want and how they want. Maybe limit # telehubs per square m of land - like 1 per 8 or 16k? Like, why can't I have people telehub into a private room that looks like a subway station?

Well what your saying is that you want to take away freedom because you dislike something. I wont go into that any further. From: someone I'd like to see charging money for telehubs, and let people put them where they want and how they want. Now that is an excellent suggestion and you should put it into the suggestions area of the forms. That would be verry usefull, Pay X amount of L$ for a telahub vector on your land. perhaps even a repeating fee like "show in find places". Although ide like to simply see an "allow TP to this parcle" fee. and then be able to use kind of scripted filters to set the exact xyz vector where the agent will rez.  if(there in the group){ TP = TheBuildingArea; } Else{ TP = TheCustomerArea; }

I know how you feel, as I was stuck in that damn Zuni board of trade or whatever the hell it was more times than I can count. And those stores with all the arches near daikoku (sp?), I am forever getting caught up in those freaking things. However, you know they can't get rid of telehubs or make direct teleporting available without a mass uprising of the owners of all of the telehub adjacent land.

From: Alan Palmerstone However, you know they can't get rid of telehubs or make direct teleporting available without a mass uprising of the owners of all of the telehub adjacent land. this is true. they also can't start charging tier fees, radically alter lsl functions, impose prim limits, organize live help, conduct auctions, pay "developer" incentives, open a teen grid, or pool the servers without causing a mass uprising of people who feel they are adversely affected. ll are eventually going to have to stop trying to foster this shangri la community foolishness and give us features that let us promote this software as something useful in the real world. will people be angry? compared to what? people are angry at them every day for every thing they do now. i will concess that telehubs are making them more money, during the mainland expansion, than they would make without. that will only be true through the beta period though. telehubs will have to disappear in the redesigns, probably before the api is finished. can you imagine having to go to google or yahoo in order to browse to a favourite site?

From: Khamon Fate this is true. ... will people be angry? compared to what? people are angry at them every day for every thing they do now.
Well, people get angry, but... in the end LL does what they think they need to do and no hollering will stop them. I remember the late-summer land price bust due to a mass-release of snow land, and all the barons complained... but nothing happened. LL explained that they were behind on releasing land, and were going to continue releasing land at a controlled rate determined by addition of new users, and that was the end of the argument. The bottom line, I think, is that if LL believes altering the telehub sytem will be more in-tune with SL evolving into a Metaverse, they will do it. All of their other decisions seem to be in tune with this logic.

I've had the occasion recently to spend enough time at a couple of telehubs for them to rez so that I can see what the surroundings look like. The first picture shows a telehub close to some land I'm preparing for sale, so I had plenty of time for it to rez before taking a look. See the poor widdle telehub there, still a few pine trees surviving around it? See what happens when land on all sides is bought up by 3 people? What if one buys out the other two? They effectively have a telehub which brings people inside their build. The second picture is the view that greeted me when I teleported elsewhere, and then didn't return to the SL window until everything was rezzed. The sight was enough to cause more than a sharp intake of breath! If I were a new resident following my first landmark and this was what greeted me after that initial teleport, I'd be totally comfuzzlebumbled! I'm sure there are other hubs with similar environments - I just rarely hang around long enough to notice

I live in the snow sims. That would certainly increase the number of telehubs. 8 or 16 k? That is 4 or 8 telehubs per sim! You might as well take Khamon's suggestion and do away with them all together. The closest telehub now for me is three sims away and I like it that way. If you want to charge for them I'd say you should have to pay for 10 sims but who can afford that? Better to leave them the way they are or get rid of them all together. From: Hiro Pendragon I remember the late-summer land price bust due to a mass-release of snow land, and all the barons complained... but nothing happened. Before that though, many people, me included, said land was way too expensive. In fact I was arguing that point not long after January or February when they first started auctioning land and continued to do so till prices approached sanity. It was a huge issue they finally addressed properly 6 months later. I don't think telehubs are in the same category. Maybe they will change them, maybe not, but it seems to me more like the issues of the female sit position or the dumb rating system than astronomical prices on land.

I'm torn on this issue. Haivng no telehubs would vertainly enable me to get around quicker. No doubt about it. On the flip side of that coin how many interesting and wonderful things would I miss out on seeing whilst flying from the telehub to my destination? I imagine the LIndens want people to see what SL has to offer instead of just bouncing between three or four of your favourite destinations.

Mmmm, yannow, you have an excellent point. Perhaps a solution is that land could be "zoned" to be telehub free, as well, as a way to still promote sparsity?

I'd love to live in a region 1500m+ from a telehub; it would pretty much be guaranteed to be all residential, since the best way to get there would be to set your home position there. But for the city regions, why not have one in each? There are more things to bump into, so I'd rather have a short flight. I think it was LL's original intent to have this effect, but maybe they need to take it a little further.

Thanks for posting those pictures, Lisse. It doesn't get any clearer than that. I hope the Lindens come up with some solution. Right now I feel like they're helping to force me into malls and advertisements. Telehub areas have become the pop-up ads of SL. It's like if every time you went to the auction page or the forums you were forced to sit through a flash ad. I need a Firefox for SL itself.

I hate the builds around a lot of the hubs. Now I immediately fly up high to avoid them once I arrive, when trying to reach a destination. The second photograph was horrendous - who would want to shop in a place like that? Sorry to whoever the owner is but really just look at it.

I say bring back point-to-point teleportation, and do away with telehubs alltogether. They are eyesores and newbie-traps.

Hank's motion seconded. The telehubs failed to acheive their goals and are now a liabilty to the game. With the slow-rez problems, streaming me 1km worth of content when I am just trying to go to an event is a waste for everyone.
Now when trying to get to an event, I teleport, E up to 300m and aim for the beacon. There is very little to get in your way at 300m. There are still some telehubs with roofs so the method is: E, BONK!, W, E to 300m.

It think that initially the Lindens wanted everyone to fly around more but the problem is that I actually go to less places than I every did because of lag and the difficulty in flying to get there. Flying in SL is almost as much hassle as flying in RL. Is there any technical reason why we can't have a p 2 p teleportation system?
