Wouldn't it be interesting if we could see an alternate way of selecting "popular places" by having the database go through everyone's "top picks" in their profiles and combining the results in a list? After all, some places might be someone's favorite store, but if they only spend 5 minutes a week there, it won't show up very high in "dwell"... however, if 100 people listed the store as their favorite, it would be shown in this list.
Same goes for interesting hangouts, builds, etc. Many folks use top picks as a way to showcase their favorite hangouts and shops... being able to gauge popularity via another way other than dwell would be useful.
Thoughts?

Good idea. They can just reimplement the Top Picks tab in FIND and display the results there.

Alternate way, yes, I'm for this, just to see how it'd work out. It hasn't been done before so my idea of what would be tallied is null.
(I am still saddened that currently, we cannot add Landmarks from profile picks. This has put a damper on my exploration because I used to chain up big queues and visit one after another.)
Some will, of course, say that friends are gonna list their friends's places and "game" the system, but eh, that is EXACTLY the point -- generally, one would not list a location in his/her/its picks unless it's something they like.
I occasionally see the funny profile pick not to showcase a place, but just a random location made somewhere with a picture, and caption.
Personal and simple. Yus.

i think its a good idea, not necessarily a total replacement of the current system, but certainly a compliment.. why not have two 'thumbs up' icons.. yellow for dwell based, blue for profile pick based, and allow people to search/list either of them

LF VERY interesting idea. I'm going to look into this and see if there's a simple way to pull this list out of our database. It would be quite cool to simply see what the top "Resident picks" are, and maybe get that info to all the Residents in SL. Thanks again for the idea!
