I was just thinking (that I needed to take a break from work) that I don't explore enough in SL (probably spend most of my time between 5 sims) and wouldn't it be fun if there was a Zagats-type user-generated categorized and rated listing of places in SL.
It happens on a micro, person-to-person level with profile picks. And I guess you could search for "club" or "amusement park" and check out dwell numbers to test popularity...
i guess it's tough in SL because you might want to post about a cool place you saw but you don't know if it is intended to be a public place... although with stores, parks, game locations, gathering places like the WA or the luskwood platforms i guess it's pretty clear
fyi: Zagats is a restaurant guide that gets all its reviews and ratings from reader submissions, though it is edited...
if this exists, i'd love to know about it. If it doesn't, well I certainly don't have the bandwidth to attempt it, but I thought I would toss it out there.

Forseti, I would gladly help with a project like this - it fits in with what I am trying to do with SLuniverse. I'll get in contact with you

From: Aimee Weber It doesn't, and this is an outstanding idea. I think you should do it. Umber Warehouse: Design: 4.5 stars Attitude: 4.5 stars Sim Performance: 4.5 stars Cost: free, if you don't count the emotional trauma A cool little build in Midnight City, with nicely textured and shadowed industrial ambience. The SL-ages of many of the regulars can be a bit intimidating to the noob affected by such things, but the people are really very welcoming. Don't forget to bring your sense of humor. A few readers did report about "that big mean person Aimee" but if you hide in the corner and shiver for a little while, she usually takes pity on you and lets you out to play. OK. I did one entry. but yeah, i don't have the time or the technical capability to do something like this. It would only work if it was relatively easy to submit... and aggregate the data. Or maybe i am envisioning something too complicated. EDIT: note to cristiano -- yes, let's brainstorm. could be fun

Forseti Svarog, its been mentioned many times with stores, clubs and other places to visit but the people that were going to do them got side tracked or just gave up on them entirely.
I can understand some of their reasoning but to be honest its a job for someone that truly loves to do stuff like that. Me there is no way in hades Id do it but its a great idea none the less for someone that loves a challenge like that.

Another challenge would be the transience of some builds, and how even some kickass builds have disappeared in the space of a few weeks or months. This makes their inclusion in a guide good for historical, but not necessarily practical purposes. Forseti has a great idea going here and I'm interested in seeing how it develops. Forseti and Ano collaborating? Hmmmmmm!

From: Shadow Weaver Forseti Svarog, its been mentioned many times with stores, clubs and other places to visit but the people that were going to do them got side tracked or just gave up on them entirely. I think a great way to do it would be sort of like Cristiano's Snapzilla: get someone to script an object or something with automatic-to-email with a sort of rating system that people could use. Either sell the scripted objects or give them out (I'd sell them for very low if anything at all) to venues, make them available at your store etc. This way, when someone visits, say, a clothing store (there would obviously be different categories -- say, builds, clothing, scripts, clubs, hangout places etc), they can click on the prim and use it somehow (I'm not the best with scripts) to rate the store, which would then send an automatic email to a website which would then adjust the store's rating accordingly. Got it? It's sort of like Snapzilla -- minimal effort on the side of the people who actually go to these places. I have no idea if what I just described is possible, by the way

I can make such a guide. Initial fee will be $1000L per star, payable by the proprietor.
I want to be a star baron.

I tried to get in, but the security scripts recognized me as a midbie and blasted me to the Welcome Area, where I bumped my head repeatedly...

inquiring minds want to know! Well, so far most of what I've done is design, and Epitaxial Playfair has done more than his share of the work, but yes. Hopefully by 1.6 we can have something consumable by the community at large (as far as working the bugs out, features, etc); but anyone is interested in testing, shoot me a PM on the boards, or an IM in-game.
