Amicable Greetings! 'Tis I again... I was wondering about the implementation of a certain feature as follows: I know I get my IMs sent to me when I am offline (not logged into Second Life) and I can read them in my emailbox, which is handy because if something important comes up, I suppose I could log back in at a moment's notice. However, I am confuzzled as to why Notify of Events does not work in the same way -- or at least an option for this. I only am Notified of Events when I'm in SL, and thus, when blogging or websurfing or researching or whatever and I have the program closed, I miss fun stuff. Is there a way to do this currently? And if not, could this feature please be added? I was considering using another scheduling program to remind me, but on the other hand, doing this would be inefficient and redundant since the SL system already has a sort of integration to it. Thank you graciously! ^_^

Doing notifications properly.

There isn't really much of a notifications system in place yet. The whole area needs some sort of consistent model thought up, and a proper notifications screen added to Prefs. For a start, the list of notifiable events needs to be expanded greatly, to include various vendor-related transaction events and even a noddy "You will be logged out in X minutes" event , as well as several user-defined events and time-related ones, to add to the Notify's you request in the Events screen. Then, each of those events needs to be listed together with their individual notify-enable button, alongside several notify-destination buttons, like IM, email, client sound, XML-RPC action, window flash, and maybe others (click on as many as required). And finally, a subscreen would be needed to provide the detail for each of the notify destination targets, eg. URLs, XML-RPC channel IDs, etc. It's very early days currently, for notifications. I'd be happy just being beeped before I get logged out, lol.

That sounds really intricate. I'd like a system that is still simple and intuitive but powerful. But since the ability to send IMs to someone's email when they are offline is currently available, I do not think it would be hard to do the same thing with Notifications 5 minutes or whatever before an Event.

We've come a long way, babies!
Now in 2006 and still hoping for better event notification. We're getting closer.Who knows when another of my early fave requests, "group teleport", will arrive--looks like when we get llTeleportAgent in the not-too-distant future, that'll be a foundation.

The SLBoutique.com event system allows for several things that I find very lacking in SL itself:
(1) Notifications are sent by the IM system. If you have IMs set to go to email, you'll receive the notification.
(2) You can choose to be notified for a particular event and get notification by email, as outlined above.
(3) You can choose to be notified for every event occuring in a certain simulator.
(4) You can choose to be notified for every event being hosted by a certain person.
(5) We allow event hosts to set up recurring events, as weekly or monthly. We'll soon be adding a method for bi-weekly events.
Regards,
-Flip
