There was a little glitch that let some unverifieds through, but it has since been fixed again apparantly.

When did it get fixed? Several weeks ago? That post is from 5 days AFTER my first Post

..snip.. Right now, there is no real reason for people to become verified either. It doesn't give them any new 'shinnies,' not even land. It just lets the rest of us say, "Hey, this person is in for the long haul." But are they really?

So true Raudf. I can think of somebody who joined up a couple of months before me and didn't bother buying anything until the new profile information mortified her in June. "Payment info on file! Why, that looks awful, I will have to buy some Lindens to change that!" So she did. Just that once. And when that info changed to "Payment info used" she was delighted.

Before then, and ever since, she has funded her impressive wardrobe through camping on a daily basis. :mad:

It just goes to show how little difference there can be between unverifieds, and those with payment info on file. The latter can mean anything from "I bought a few $Ls once", to "I own a number of sims". How pointless.

I have to say its good to hear all the opinions on this. Im not close minded at all, and I see your points on the free accounts being beneficial to SL in the greater scheme of things. I just hate how things have become lately with all the problems. My main concern is probably the same as the rest of yours... How to make SL run better.

I also know that my opinion alone doesnt matter... Im just a peon like the rest of us. LL isnt going to listen to just one person, or even 100 persons.

Here is what I have noticed just in the short time I have been here:

- Help from LL sucks
- Packet Loss is getting worse
- The grid crawls to a halt with the number of users that are online at the same time now.
- Constant inventory problems
- Oh... dont forget Copybot... and whatever comes after it.

I agree that SL grew too much too fast in the last 2 or 3 months. Im just hoping that someone can come up with a way to fix it before a bunch of us decide to leave. I like SL, and I have a lot of plans for what I want to do personally. But im not going forward with them until things at least LOOK like they are starting to get better.

As I said in the other thread, remove them from Traffic/Popularity counts seems enough to me.

If LL bans a major griefer, they say they do have ways of banning all the alts of that griefer. But from past experience, their methods of doing so are easily defeated by the more determined, more tech-savvy griefers and thieves.
Not to mention that they can potentially punish innocent third parties if the griefer uses some of the more obvious tricks to hide their tracks.

Ok. So...

How long would this "solution" help? 3 months? 6 months?

What happens when SL reaches the point (which I think will probably be sometime next year) where 15,000 VERIFIED accounts are online at the same time? It is predicted that by New Year's Eve there will have been 2 million account sign ups. So 15,000 verifieds concurrently isn't that far into the future.

We were at over 15,000 on at once this weekend. It was when the grid took a huge dump Sunday evening.

Edit: Just saw the VERIFIED part of your comment... I doubt they were all verified... but there were over 15K on at once.

Nope! They wipe content on accounts that have financially lapsed, as an incentive to keep up with your monthly payments or to tier-down in an orderly fashion and pony-up the downgrade fee. But an unverified account or even a paid for Basic account doesn't become delenquent on payments if they stop playing for a few months, so they don't get wiped.

Personally, every single one of my accounts is Basic. I see no incentive at all to go Premium. It's cheaper to buy L$ when I need them than it is to pay for a Premium account and have part of that money paid back to be in the form of my weekly stipend. I can own better land with better security against griefers and laggy businesses on private islands, without ever becoming Premium. I could even buy my own SIM, my own private island, without being Premium.

The privilige of owning land on the mainland? HA! They can keep it!

I churn thousands of L$ through the SL economy every month. I work hard, and I spend a lot of what I earn on fun stuff made by other people. I don't need to be a Premium member or to pay a monthly access dues to be a positive, contributing member of this community.

I agree with every aspect of what this guy just said and I am currently DOWNGRADING already (this is my second time getting into SL on a prem btw... and was almost my second time quitting SL (and well the grid is down while I write this so who knows..) )

The mainland is dead. Its just dead. If you judge SL by the mainland... you'll dig it.. but wont be able to stand it... LAG LAG LAG LAG... Even alot of the older islands <cough> azure</cough> ... My place now is in Barks ... ITS AMAZING.. i mean.. FPS like its a doom2 LAN GAME ... its so insane it makes me want to play again.. makes me not scoff at cars and airplanes in SL since its more like a flipbook on the mainland.. here I fly freely... I drive and take (almost) hairpin turns (almost...its still SL...) ....

Anyways im not pluggin for my landlord so i'll get to my point... Mainland = dead;
Islands = New potential.

Monthly fees... ? Why linden do you need monthly fees when you have this many people willing to pay you $USD for MONOPOLY MONEY!!! cmon... get real.

Basic members Buy $L. Basic Members create and sell and generate $L. I buy $L to buy products from Basic Members. You've got something like 30+ island orders? so roughly 50-60K $USD in setup fees alone? naw... I'll pay my $10/month rent to my landlord (who pays LL $200/month rent). And the money goes round and round... simply put linden... let me keep my downgrade to basic.. and thats $10 more I'll pump into a slot machine somewhere on a remote island.
