Well one of the limitations to attachments is that they aren't physics enabled (they go phantom) which really sucks cuz you can't do things like make 10m stilts for your legs and stuff! I think that's definitely one part of the puzzle.

I'm not a scripter, so I'm not sure if one object that is scripted and attached can affect another object that is scripted and attached (and in essence affecting the avatar itself as well) but I'll leave that to the experts to hash out! LOL

I would also love to see something like when you CTRL-mouse over objects in specific circumstances, that your avarar's hand would adtucally move to and touch the object/avatar at the location you clicked at... Like stroking your VR pet cat? LOL

Right. Well that would appear to split the problem into two parts, since in principle you could make attachments non-phantom without enabling physics. In other words, they'd retain their bounding boxes with the sole exception of allowing penetration by the wearing avatar. (You would have to allow penetration by the wearer otherwise it would break a million current attachments.)

That would solve the issue of stilts working properly for example, and many other situations where the physics engine isn't required,

Continuing to think about this ...
