May I ask why you would want such a feature?
I see no use for it. |

"I for one could use it to keep my business and personal accounting seperate." That's what Excel is for. Why should I have to do something the hard way when LL can provide for it in simple code? |

Why should SL fudge something that'll ultimately end up causing more bugs in an already bug-ridden system when the function is already provided in a widely available industry-standard software package? How about we ask Lindenlabs to include a calculator? I for one am tired of doing it the hard way, having to click through aaaall those menus to get to the Windows built-in calculator. Musuko. |

No need to fudge at all - it's simple and straightforward code. SL already provides financial reporting, all we are asking is that functionality be increased. If LL wants, as they often claim they do, RL business to increase inworld - the providing basic financial functionality is the first step towards doing so. |

Code which has already been provided in a much better package by someone else. Secondlife already provides complete account information on the website, including the ability to download that information in Excel format. If you're incapable of using these services, should you really be in business? Musuko. |

Secondlife already provides complete account information on the website I just want to point out that it isn't entirely complete. When an object you own pays someone it does not list the name of the object. See this thread. |

Code which has already been provided in a much better package by someone else. Certainly - but that better package is not Excel. Excel is a spreadsheet, not financial management software. (Though people do misuse it as such.) Secondlife already provides complete account information on the website, including the ability to download that information in Excel format. Which I then have to spend considerable time cutting and pasting and editing in order to convert it to a useful format. If you're incapable of using these services, should you really be in business?. Having been in RL business for over thirty years - I'm quite aware of how to use various packages and services. I'm also acutely aware of the differences between, and shortcomings of, various types of software. |

Well, for the ones among you that are not 'afraid' of Ginko Financial, that's a good way to keep a 'separate' account, and since you can transfer money between different accounts, it's a possible way to keep things separate.
It would be nice that Ginko offered "group accounts", although you can somewhat "emulate" that as well (although not too well). The alternative, of course, is wait for LL to implement the many new group functions, one of which will address this problem ![]() _____________________

Personally, I use an Excel spreadsheet to track my SL Business expenses. What bugs me is that I have to export the data one day at a time, and paste it all together. Why can't we tell it to export a single Excel file for a range of dates?
One way to track exactly what sells: Sell each item from a named, single-prim vendor. Then the reporting shows that name when the item is sold. Terrible on prim count for a busy merchant, however... We use the single-prim vending methods for selling textures at TRU. But it's a huge store, so we can do that. Elsewhere, I settled on using 4 individual 3-prim 'category' vendors at each location where I sell. Each is named along the lines of "Casual Clothes vendor - Kitsune Valley", "Fashion Vendor - Wolf Valley", "Housewares vendor - The Forest". So that and the price of the item is what I see for each item sold. Allows me to track sales by location pretty well. _____________________
Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Personally myself, I think this is an issue that should be address to Ginko Finacial and not LL, LL has enough on their plate and from what I have read, this sounds like banking issue. Maybe Ginko could start like a Savings & Checking account amongst avatars. I don't imagine it would too difficult, just multiple pots with variant interest rates. Could be an interesting way for them to make a little more profit.

I rewrote the free vendor script to be able to track what sells, how much, and optionally when (it's not coded, but could be, as the transfer history could retrieve it). I offer this script as well as the server prim and script that actually logs the data for free (full perms). I know it can track over 25 sold items, not sure what the max is--I recently spilt mine into two tracking different lists of items, so my list of 28 became 2 lists of about 14 (the origonal is up to about 20 again). If you IM me inworld, I can give you a landmark. |
