I would like to check out your software/website as well.

Feel free to add my name to the list if that phase has not already been completed.
The amount of time it takes to get money out seems silly to me, and is definately a
market opening for someone who can do it faster.

How Do You Build Trust?
01-07-2007 04:32
Really people.

If you can think back to when you FIRST met Jamie, or first started using the original GOM, you didn't know Jamie from Joe Blow Avatar.

By you using the service, getting to know the person behind the service, you built up a relationship of trust.

Nobody's asking you to be best buddies with Lee on the spot. That's not how trust works. If you're interested in building a similar relationship to the one you had with Jamie - then take the steps.

Beta test the service, or take it for a spin when it comes out. Build the relationship the same way you built one with Jamie.

All this desire for "instant trust" and endorsements by Jamie will still not take the place of you building the groundwork yourself with Lee and the new GOM.

Just Do It. Or dont. But don't ask for something that by its very nature is going to take some time and experiences to build up. Trust. That's how it works.

Is GOM back in business? I have not heard nor seen any signs of them around but a few post about them in the past 2 months.

This wasn't a desire for instant trust, I was trying to show that sticking an old, established name on a new venture should not necessarily import all prior goodwill. My request for explanation from the selling party was made in order to help Lee establish some transfer of that goodwill - for his own benefit and for the protection of the community.

Jamie and Tom spent some time in the community before bringing in their extant virtual currency exchange. I knew them before they were an SL business. That was classy.

As someone noted above, this re-incarnation is but vaporware, seemingly headed by someone who hasn't time to meet his own statements of launch dates. Caveat emptor.

In case it matters, I once bought about US$20 worth of L$ through GOM; that was my sole connection with the firm aside from the pleasure of knowning the founders of it.

I wonder how this is going to affect the GOM:

they must really be hurting for their lindex commission

Wow. I mean wow.

So is this a way to shut out third-party exchanges or simply grant monopoly rights to their "selected" exchange?

This is obviously pretty high on LL's priority list for them to build a new API while the grid burns. How could they possibly determine that:
If Linden Lab, in its sole discretion, determines that a Second Life user has purchased Linden Dollars for real currency through any means other than LindeX, and that the seller of such Linden Dollars acquired such Linden Dollars through fraudulent means, or any other means in violation of the Terms of Service, then Linden Lab will consider the buying user a complicit party in the fraud or violation. As a penalty for participation in such fraud or violation, Linden Lab will reduce the Linden Dollar balance of the buying Second Life account (and/or any Second Life accounts owned or operated by, or affiliated with, the owner of the buying account), by any amount up to 150% of the amount of Linden Dollars involved in the transaction.
And why punish the (presumably) unwitting purchaser? So buyers now have to determine if the seller used "fradulent means"? How could they possibly know that? How does one obtain L$ through fraudulent means in the first place?

Sounds like someone found an exploit....

Is there something LLabs is not telling us?????? This is scary........Sounds like someone broke the Linden $ code and reproduced unlimited amounts.

It could be an attempt to dissuade, it doesn't neccesarily mean something is wrong.
